Description
The Henderson County Department of Public Health is seeking a full-time Public Health Strategist for Behavioral Health to join our Community Health team. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic professional who is passionate about improving the health and well-being of our community.
This position will help lead community health efforts focused on mental health promotion, suicide prevention, substance misuse prevention, and other social factors that affect health. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and strategies that support behavioral health in Henderson County.
The Public Health Strategist will also help facilitate and support community coalitions and partnerships, coordinate the annual Henderson County Behavioral Health Conference, and provide community trainings such as Youth Mental Health First Aid, QPR, and/or CALM.
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
  • Mental health, suicide prevention, and/or substance misuse prevention
  • Working with community groups, coalitions, or partnerships
  • Coordinating conferences, trainings, or large events
  • Speaking and presenting to groups of different sizes
  • Teaching or facilitating trainings or classes
  • Grant writing, budgeting, and program administration
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating community programs or health initiatives
  • Building relationships with local organizations and community partners
  • Knowledge of Henderson County community resources and support services

Schedule
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. Some evening, weekend, or holiday work may be needed for events, trainings, or public health emergencies. Additional hours and occasional travel may also be required as needed as assigned by supervisor or Health Director.
Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds and professional levels; strong facilitation and organizational skills; ability to use sound judgment and communicate professionally and respectfully with staff, community leaders, and the public. General knowledge of data collection, analysis, and reporting preferred.
Considerable knowledge of human services administration and community planning concepts, and of human service programs and supportive services in the functional areas to which assigned. Ability to provide guidance to state and local management in planning new or improved programs, and to communicate effectively with professional and administrative personnel.
Required Minimum Training and Experience
A master's degree in public or human service administration or a human services programmatic field, preferably with course work in human services planning, and two years of human service experience, one of which must have been in human service program planning; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of progressive administrative or consultative experience in human service program, one of which must have been in human service program planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
