DONEGAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
POSITION MANAGEMENT GUIDE
SUMMARY OF PURPOSE This position is responsible for performing custodial and light maintenance tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian or designee. This is a hands-on working position (95% hands on, 5% office). Positions may be assigned to days or second shifts to meet district needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs proportionate share of custodial duties for the building as assigned. Assists with extra work hours on short notice.
2. Provides event support as assigned.
3. Provides quality control for buildings and grounds in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule and reports results to appropriate supervisory personnel.
4. Assists in the maintenance of lawns, fields and shrubbery.
5. Participates in snow removal, on-call and emergency response duties and responsibilities as assigned. This position is expected to respond to every All-Hazards call in, not answering calls or being able to be reached "is not an option". 6. Performs minor repairs to custodial equipment and fixtures when feasible. Forwards maintenance/service request forms for major maintenance/service to appropriate supervisory personnel.
7. Monitors custodial equipment and supplies for function, safety and serviceability.
8. Assists in ordering and acknowledging receipts of supplies and equipment; conducts inventories as required.
9. Assists in refuse and snow removal.
10. Stay current in custodial trends and practices.
11. Assists district courier and maintenance personnel when necessary.
12. Assist with emergency situations as directed.
13. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian or designee.
14. Maintains an optimum relationship with other staff members by being courteous and always mindful of the importance of confidentiality. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular position function for which the person is responsible.
SCOPE AND IMPACT This position accomplishes most of its tasks through a standard operating procedure. Internal contacts include administrators, the buildings and grounds staff, teachers, principals, students and other school district employees. The external contacts include parents and the general public.
REPORTING STRUCTURE Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience in custodial and maintenance work is preferred. Current PA driver's license, ability to secure and maintain all appropriate clearances and first aid, AED and CPR certifications. Other job related certifications as assigned. SPECIAL SKILLS Ability to operate various hand tools and custodial equipment. Requires proficient computer skills (use of building work ticket system, communicate effectively through email, basic operation of alarm and access systems). Must possess good organizational skills. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of verbal, electronic and handwritten communication. Work as a team player to accomplish routine and unique projects. Be able to use good judgment to independently respond to unusual or changing circumstances.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL Physical: Sit: 5% Walk/Stand: 95% (must be able to consistently kneel, climb, and work off ladders) Lifting: 60 lbs. or more (repetitively) Vision: Normal Mental:- Ability to evaluate, interpret and analyze, written and verbal communications. Environmental: Ability to work in various internal environments that may be disagreeable and in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. Able to work with custodial cleaning chemicals.Â
