SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:ย 

Assistย and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living meaningful, independent lives. DSPs help individualsย maintainย their health, develop skills in daily living, access public resources, build relationships, and engage fully in their home and community environments. This role empowers individuals to work toward their personal goals and live the life they choose.ย 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:ย 

  • High School Diploma or GEDย 

  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving recordย 

  • Reliable transportationย (with valid car insurance)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

  • 1ย year of experience working with individuals with disabilitiesย 

  • Ability to engageย and communicateย withย courtesy, tact, and good judgmentย 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • Provide support to help individuals learn to be more independent and to meet their goals withย a varietyย of day-to-day events.ย This may include, but is not limited to, bathroom support, household chores, budgeting, making friends, exploring their community, shopping, mealย prepping, advocating for themselves, eating, etc.ย 

  • Demonstrates effective and professional communication with individuals and their families/support systems as well as with providers serving the individuals whileย establishingย and maintaining professional boundaries.ย 

  • Assistย with personal care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including but not limited to directly supporting with baths, oral care, dressing, grooming, etc.ย 

  • Provide training in skills related to the use of community resources, such as transportation, shopping, and social and recreational activities.ย 

  • Monitor the health and physical condition of individuals andย assistย with medicationย managementย and other medical needs when applicable.ย 

  • Recognize and report suspected cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.ย 

  • Supervise individuals to ensure their health and safety.ย 

  • Provide behavioral support asย appropriateย and train individuals in adaptive behavior for home and community settings, such as managing anger, handling social encounters with others, and developing a support network.ย 

  • Facilitate the active involvement of the individuals served and their families/support systems in the service delivery process,ย maintainย knowledge of individualsโ€™ daily goals, and document progress toward achieving those goals.ย 

  • Assistย individuals in handling developmental and life transitions, stay knowledgeable about available communityย resourcesย and help connect individuals with these resources.ย 

  • Ensure quality,ย timelyย completion, and submission of required documentation.ย 

  • Maintainย accurateย time records by clocking in and out at the start and end of each shift.ย 

  • Maintain current personal car insurance and registration.ย
