Job description

Kamp K-9 is a premier dog daycare, dog boarding, dog grooming and training facility located in Long Grove, Illinois.  Kamp K-9 serves the broader Northwest Chicago suburbs, including but not limited to, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, and the corresponding villages.   

Kamp K-9 will serve this customer base by providing a complete range of services, in a modern facility, that is managed by a team of people that place equal emphasis on the physical and emotional well-being of its guests (dogs) and its customers (dog owners).  The Mission of Kamp K-9 is to provide a clean, safe, healthy, and fun environment that enables dog owners to have complete peace of mind regarding the well-being of their beloved dog while they are at work, on vacation, or simply allowing their dog to interact with other dogs on a given day.  Kamp K-9 operates with the highest degree of integrity and will maintain the highest customer service standards (non-negotiable).  The general business model of Kamp K-9 is primarily one of service.  Therefore, we will always strive to exceed the customers’ expectations, as repeat customers and referrals are an integral component of the business’ success. 

The Trainer will report to the Director, Kennel Operations.  Key tasks / responsibilities include: 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Consulting with clients to discuss behavioral concerns and training needs 
  • Identifying additional behavioral concerns and communicating training strategies to clients 
  • Developing suitable training plans for dogs and documenting their progress 
  • Teaching dogs to obey basic commands using various training techniques that are best suited to each dog’s personality and attributes 
  • Implementing appropriate training programs to address and resolve problem areas, including general obedience, anxiety, and aggressive behavior 
  • Ensuring that the training areas are clean and tidy 
  • Teaching clients appropriate training methods to enforce and maintain behaviors and skills learned by their dogs during training sessions 
  • Contacting clients to schedule training appointments and verify bookings 

REQUIREMENTS  

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Certification through AKC or The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is advantageous 
  • Proven experience working as a dog trainer 
  • Sound knowledge of dog training techniques as well as animal behavior and body language 
  • Effective communication skills 
  • A passion for dogs 
  • Friendly / professional appearance / demeanor 
  • Work 3 - 4 days or a full-time schedule 
  • Ability to stand and bend for an extended period of time
