Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to administer a project to prepare, review and\r\namend fishery management plans for specified fish species in Natural Resources\r\nArticle, 4-215, Annotated Code of Maryland and any other recreationally,\r\ncommercially, and ecologically valuable fish/shellfish species. Integrate management\r\nmeasures in those plans with interstate agreements, recommendations, ecosystem\r\nprocesses, and climatological factors.\r\nThis position also represents Fishing and Boating Services on the Maryland\r\nCommission on Climate Change's Adaptation and Resiliency Working Group (ARWG).\r\nCollaboration through the ARWG will assist DNR in coordinating state level adaptation\r\nand resilience efforts by identifying opportunities to incorporate climate change into\r\nmanagement practices to reflect anticipated future conditions and advance adaptation.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
\r\nDuties of this position include but are not limited to:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Develops fishery management ideas and concepts for inclusion in fishery management problem\r\n statements, strategies, and actions.\r\n Represents the Department as the lead staff for fishery management planning.\r\n Consults with State and federal agency officials on matters of interest and intergovernmental\r\n environmental and natural resources planning.\r\n Represents Fishing and Boating Services on the Maryland Commission on Climate Change's Adaptation\r\n and Resiliency Working Group (ARWG). Participate in planning and implementing the ARWG annual\r\n work plan in support of state level adaptation and resilience efforts, including the Next Generation\r\n Adaptation Plan.\r\n Serves as representative for the Department on various committees and workgroups associated with\r\n fishery management and climate adaptation issues to discuss, inform, or persuade positions related to\r\n Division programs.\r\n Schedule and prepare the agenda for meetings on developing fishery management strategies to members of\r\n the fishery management plan review teams (workgroup), which may include representatives from the Bay\r\n jurisdictions, federal and state agencies, academia, commercial and sportfishing associations, conservation\r\n groups and interested citizens.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.\r\nExperience:Five years of experience in natural resources planning orapplied environmental science.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor'sdegree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological, environmental sciences andone year of experience in natural resource planning or appliedenvironmental science for the required education.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master'sdegree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration,development, environmental, urban or regional planning;resources economics or development; environmental systemmanagement; water or land resources planning and management; environmental landscape architecture; or thephysical, chemical, biological or environmental sciencesfor up to three years of the required experience.\r\n3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration,development, environmental urban or regional planning;resources economics or development; environmental systemmanagement; water or land resources planning andmanagement; environmental landscape architecture; or thephysical, chemical, biological or environmental sciences for the required experience.\r\n4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the generalnatural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general natural resources management andbiological sciences specialty codes in the general natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience andeducation.\r\n
