Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Monitors and assists staff and patients with all Durable Medical Equipment inventory and fittings.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Fitting patients with Durable Medical Equipment
  • Educate patients with relation to their home medical equipment to facilitate safe and effective equipment use and desired care, treatment and service outcomes.
  • Provide patient care, treatment and service in a continuous and coordinated manner, in settings appropriate to meet patient needs.
  • Promote safe, effective patient and organizational environments and equipment use.
  • Participate in on-going education, including in-services, training, and other activities, to maintain and improve individual competence.
  • Obtain, utilize, and update patient information in a confidential and secure manner for utilization in patient care and billing applications.
  • Recognize and implement infection control practices that reduce the risk of infections in patients and organizational staff.
  • Formulate, revise; and maintain advance patient care plans based on physician orders and assessment findings including the identification of patient problems/needs, goals, and actions and interventions relating to the care or service provided.
  • Measuring and ordering of custom braces
  • Ordering and maintaining stock and inventory of DME
  • Obtaining billing authorizations from insurance companies
  • Reviewing and maintaining inventory management system
  • Follows all applicable department and practice policies and procedures
  • Participates in professional development activities to keep current with healthcare trends, compliance and practices
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality guidelines established by the practice
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
  • Attends all regular meetings
  • Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the DME Coordinator
  • Maintains compliance with continuing educational requirements to maintain professional affiliations, certifications, licensure, etc..
OtherTypical Physical Demands

Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Position Involves sitting, standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions, and work irregular hours. Employee may be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
