Job description

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a full-time senior engineer to lead our Dam and Levee Safety (DLS) practice in Georgia. The ideal candidate will have experience leading state and/or federally regulated dam projects for municipal clients, be an effective communicator and passionate about serving clients, and be capable of supervising and mentoring younger staff. The successful candidate will lead and manage projects and pursuits in Georgia and support projects and pursuits across the U.S.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow Hazenโ€™s DLS presence in Georgia by serving existing clients and developing new clients.
  • Lead business development activities including preparation of proposals and presentations.
  • Provide a high level of client service and development.
  • Perform project engineering and management for a wide range of projects to include planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of structures for dams, levees, conveyance, and hydropower facilities.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of engineers.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Prepare assessment and design reports.
  • Perform design calculations.
  • Oversee the preparation of construction documents.
  • Provide construction phase engineering services throughout construction/commissioning of projects.
  • Perform dam inspections and site visits from planning through construction.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent is required.
  • Master of Science/Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent is a plus.
  • Licensed professional engineer in at least one state is required (GA, NC, and VA preferred) with the ability to become licensed in multiple states.
  • Georgia Safe Dams Program Engineer of Record or ability to obtain certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience on heavy civil infrastructure, dam, levee, hydropower, and/or water resource projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience on heavy civil infrastructure, dam, levee, hydropower, and/or water resource design projects.
  • Experience analyzing and designing dam safety solutions; production of construction documents is a plus.
  • Professional society involvement/volunteerism at the State or National level is a plus.
  • Risk assessment experience and/or training is a plus.
