Job description

Responsible for maintenance and repair of Blowout Preventer (BOP) stack, control and support systems, hydraulic and mechanical components and component interface/support systems. Monitor all rig subsea systems operation and direct troubleshooting and repairs as necessary for operations. Implement and uphold safety and environmental compliance requirements. Work closely with the Section Leaders to ensure subsea systems meet operational requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Recognized Marine/Engineering qualification from Maritime college.
  • 5+ years of related experience and education/training in hydraulics and fluid system maintenance and repair; superior knowledge of BOPs and control systems and associated procedures; of riser tensioners and CMC functions; and of all wellhead equipment and running tools.
  • Valid IWCF Well Control Surface and Subsea, level 4 certificate and BOSIET CA-EBS.
  • 5+ years of experience working with IFS.
  • Ability to perform accurate calculations for riser runs and tensioners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior troubleshooting, decision making, and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to understand and react with diverse groups and operations, to recognize and resolve conflict, to plan and delegate work that has been organized, and to think globally.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Skilled in time management, establishing priorities, handling multiple tasks on a daily basis and following through on all tasks to completion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
OPERATIONS
  • Work with rig management and supervisors for planning operations and evolutions related to subsea systems and subsea system operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Organize, brief, and directly control assistance team for pulling the Blowout Preventer (BOP) stack.
  • Maintain an adequate knowledge level of overall drilling operations to assemble and disassemble all inter-related equipment involved with subsea and surface support systems.
  • Interface with all key rig personnel during drilling operations to support operations involving subsea and surface support equipment.
  • Perform calculations, e.g. fluids, total weights of BOP and riser string before spudding with Rig Manager, nitrogen pre-charge in accumulator bottles, water depths and its impact on equipment.
  • Move heavy equipment.
  • Install subsea equipment in a time efficient manner during drilling operations.
  • Pre-plan all evolutions for most efficient, time effective operations.
  • Work in cooperation with the Materials Coordinator maintaining adequate levels and records of spare parts under specific control.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MAINTENANCE & REPAIR
  • Install and maintain all components and parts of the subsea BOP stack and lower marine riser package, riser joints, telescopic joint, diverter, tensioners, and other associated equipment.
  • Maintain and test all drilling or marine related subsea and surface support equipment such as running, retrieving, and testing tools, TV camera and any other equipment associated with the stack, surface well control safety system and/or marine tensing compensating system.
  • Troubleshoot as necessary, all subsea and surface equipment and recommend corrective action to the Rig Manager on safest and most efficient means of solving occurred problems.
  • Witness all pressure, latch-up and weight set tests on subsea safety and/ or completion equipment to ensure all evolutions are performed safely and within the limitations of the equipment.
  • Maintain the internal and external preservation, including lubrication of all subsea equipment in storage and/or not in use.
  • Perform or witness measurements of operator-provided subsea equipment, prior to running to ensure compatibility with equipment it may be connected to. Advise the Rig Manager of any complication that might occur in the usage of the equipment.
  • Install and maintain the Riser itself.
  • Assist drill crews in maintaining crown mounted compensator.
  • Maintain and repair surface unit high pressure hydraulics.
  • Assist the Electronics Technician with repair and maintenance of electronic controls for the unit.
  • Maintain and install Christmas trees used in well completion.
  • Troubleshoot and repair any equipment associated with the subsea stack and surface control units.
  • Maintain appropriate system knowledge and reference material to perform all aspects of maintenance, repair, and upkeep on all subsea systems and support systems.
  • Assist the Mechanic in mechanical auxiliary system repair as necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment for wear and leaks.
  • Overhaul equipment as necessary for proper operation.
  • Provide reports concerning equipment and systems operation and maintenance to division management as required by policy and procedure and emergent events.

HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL
  • Implement and uphold Noble's safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all operations proceed in a safe manner. Correct and notify responsible parties of any unsafe acts and/or conditions which exist.
  • Encourage and motivate personnel to observe safety and environmental policies and all intended and implied requirements of Noble's Management System.
  • Responsible for familiarizing and adhering to Noble's Live Safe Code for the purpose of promoting a zero-incident and no-harm workplace.
  • Responsible for familiarizing and utilizing Noble's Hazard Identification Tool to manage risk created by various energy sources found in the workplace.
  • Attend and actively participate in daily pre-tour and weekly safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements established in Noble's Management System.
  • Initiate a safety stand down whenever an unplanned hazard or change in the expected results is observed.
  • Perform all Safety Critical Tasks as detailed in the HSE Case.
  • Incorporate the STOP the job planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team.
  • Take the initiative to perform emergency duties without specific orders or instruction.
  • Develop and implement Job Safety Analysis and prepare hazard assessments as required.
