Distributor Manager information

What is a distributor manager?

Distributor Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the distribution of products from manufacturers to retailers or end customers. Their main duties include managing relationships with distributors, ensuring efficient supply chain operations, monitoring inventory levels, and developing strategies to expand market reach. They work to optimize sales, resolve distribution issues, and track performance metrics. Distributor Managers often collaborate with sales, logistics, and marketing teams to ensure that products reach the intended markets efficiently.

How does a distributor manager typically collaborate with sales and logistics teams to ensure smooth product distribution?

A Distributor Manager works closely with sales teams to align distribution strategies with sales targets, ensuring that products reach the right markets on time. They also coordinate with logistics teams to manage inventory levels, optimize delivery routes, and resolve any shipping issues promptly. Regular meetings and clear communication between these departments are essential to address challenges such as supply chain disruptions or changing customer demands. This collaborative approach helps maintain efficient operations and high customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a distributor manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Distributor Manager, you need expertise in supply chain management, sales strategy, and inventory control, usually supported by a degree in business or logistics. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, CRM platforms, and data analytics tools is typically required. Strong negotiation, leadership, and relationship-building skills help drive distributor performance and align teams toward common goals. These competencies ensure efficient distribution operations, maximize sales, and maintain strong partnerships within the supply chain.

Job description

Description:

Who We Are

At Pittston Co-Packers, we are a team of hardworking individuals driven by a shared purpose: delivering the highest quality beverages through innovation, precision, and pride in our craft. From our production lines to our support teams, we believe in keeping things simple, empowering each other to take ownership, and working together to achieve excellence.

We’re not just growing; we’re setting a new standard in beverage manufacturing. Our culture is built on trust, collaboration, and a strong commitment to doing things the right way. If you’re looking for a workplace where your contributions are valued, your ideas are welcomed, and your growth is supported, you’ll feel right at home with us.

Position Summary

The Regional Sales Manager - Central leads distributor-facing sales management and field execution across the Central Division. This role establishes relationships with distributor owners, GMs, and senior sales leaders, manages FSMs once market density justifies headcount, and converts distributor commitments into practical store-level execution plans.

Core Responsibilities

Prospect, qualify, and manage distributor partners across Central target markets.

Coach and direct FSMs against route lists, outlet priorities, and execution standards.

Build distributor launch plans tied to target retailers, forecasted purchase orders, and route coverage.

Track can-buy vs. did-buy conversion and resolve distributor execution gaps.

Coordinate local chain, independent, and activation priorities with Key Accounts, Specialty, and field marketing support.

Maintain disciplined CRM, call notes, scorecards, and weekly reporting cadence.

Requirements:

Qualifications / Experience

5+ years of beverage, CPG, DSD, distributor management, or regional sales leadership experience.

Proven ability to work with distributor GMs, owners, VPs, and field sales leaders.

Experience managing field sales teams or multi-market execution preferred.

Strong understanding of convenience, grocery, independent, and regional chain execution.

Ability to travel across Central markets and operate in startup / challenger-brand conditions.

Success Profile

Builds a distributor network that supports the right retailers, not just available outlets.

Turns distributor commitments into measurable in-market execution.

Creates operating discipline across field activity, route coverage, and store-level follow-through.

Builds the Central region only as distributor coverage and purchase order readiness justify headcount.
