Job description

Distribution Designer – Overhead Distribution
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Greater Philadelphia Area

About the Role
ExecuPOWER is seeking a Distribution Designer to support the design and execution of overhead electric distribution projects for utility clients. This role is responsible for developing utility design packages, supporting field investigations, performing quality reviews of assigned work, and collaborating with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective distribution solutions.
The ideal candidate has experience with CAD or MicroStation and an interest in electric utility distribution design. Experience supporting overhead distribution and pole replacement projects is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop design packages for overhead electric distribution projects, including new customer connections, system upgrades, reliability improvements, and asset replacement initiatives.
  • Perform field investigations and collect engineering data to support distribution line design.
  • Prepare construction drawings, staking sheets, bills of materials, work orders, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, or other utility design software.
  • Design overhead electric distribution facilities in accordance with utility standards, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and client specifications.
  • Support overhead line relocations, pole replacement, reconductoring, and distribution improvement projects.
  • Review field data, drawings, and bills of materials to verify design accuracy prior to project submission.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, field personnel, and utility stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design review meetings and incorporate feedback into project deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, design revisions, and engineering records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve design quality and workflow efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in utility design, engineering design, drafting, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD software is required.
  • Experience designing electric utility overhead distribution systems is preferred.
  • Experience supporting pole replacement programs initiatives is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electric utility construction practices and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is preferred.
  • Experience preparing construction drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting investor-owned utilities.
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms and utility work management systems.
  • Knowledge of overhead distribution construction practices and utility design standards.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
