Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Distribution Operations is responsible for overseeing day-to-day distribution center operations, ensuring the efficient movement of goods, compliance with safety standards, and continuous improvement. This role emphasizes driving operational excellence, developing a strong team culture, and leading the strategic growth of the distribution center in alignment with overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of managers, supervisors, and distribution staff to ensure high levels of engagement, productivity, and performance.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the workforce.
  • Develop leadership capabilities within the team, ensuring clear succession planning and growth opportunities.
  • Drive a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Create a sense of ownership and responsibility at all levels, encouraging employees to take initiative and make data-driven decisions.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Direct day-to-day operations, ensuring that processes for receiving, inventory management, picking, packing, and shipping are executed efficiently and accurately.
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies to optimize workflows and reduce costs.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, ensuring alignment with business goals, and initiate corrective actions when targets are not met.
  • Manage labor planning and scheduling to ensure optimal staffing levels based on volume forecasts and operational requirements.
  • Oversee the management of warehouse technology systems (e.g., WMS, automation tools) to improve operational performance.

Business Acumen & Strategy Execution

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align distribution operations with corporate goals and customer expectations.
  • Analyze financial reports and P&L statements, taking ownership of budget management, cost controls, and capital expenditure planning.
  • Drive decision-making through strong business acumen, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, service improvement, and process innovation.
  • Build partnerships with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, procurement, customer service, and transportation, to improve service levels and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives related to expansion, automation, and facility upgrades.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

  • Act as the point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on distribution-related matters, providing updates on service levels, capacity, and improvements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure smooth supply chain operations.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer service teams to understand customer needs and align distribution operations to meet or exceed those expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in distribution, logistics, or supply chain management, with at least 6 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading large teams in a high-volume, fast-paced distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of distribution and warehouse technologies (WMS, TMS) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of building high-performance teams and fostering a positive work culture
  • Strong business acumen, with experience managing P&L, budgeting, and financial performance in a distribution setting.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
