Position Summary
Student Library Assistant essential responsibilities include providing basic circulation assistance and troubleshooting minor photocopier, printer, and scanner problems. The Student Library Assistant reports to Library Assistant III Circulation Manager.
This is a student position open to current UIW students.
Essential Functions
  • Using the library's software to provide circulation assistance to patrons.
  • Shelving, shifting books, shelf reading, aiding in the de-accessioning of library materials.
  • Assist with opening and/or closing procedures for both the media center and the library.
  • Referr individuals to the appropriate librarian when needed.
  • Assist patrons with basic computer software and hardware questions.
  • Maintain printers, and troubleshooting minor equipment problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to act professionally in a public service environment.
  • Punctual and attentive to clients.
  • Possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in mainstream computer software and the ability to manage basic computer hardware issues.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently and problem solve.
  • Ability to follow directions and enforce Library and media center policy.
  • Proficient in the use of productivity software.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
  • Currently enrolled UIW student.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Library operations/services, audiovisual equipment, and computer software.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
None.
Work Hours
Monday through Friday, including night and weekends.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to push book trucks weighing in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and to reach shelves higher than 6 feet and must be able to lift at least 20lbs.
