About the Role

The Settlements Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end settlement distribution process to ensure all client funds are distributed accurately, timely, and in compliance with firm SOPs, ethical rules, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as a critical control point between Legal Operations and Accounting, ensuring data accuracy, proper approvals, goal attainment, and risk mitigation related to client funds.

The individual in this role is accountable for validating settlement details, approving distribution calculations, attorney fee calculations, managing case expense capture, resolving cost-related questions, and driving workflow efficiency across departments.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the full settlement distribution lifecycle from receipt of settlement funds through final client disbursement.
  • Ensure all settlement data (settlement amounts, attorney fees, costs, liens, holdbacks, and net client proceeds) is accurate, complete, and approved prior to distribution
  • Ensure settlement processing aligns with monthly and quarterly distribution targets
  • Report distribution metrics, risks, and performance updates to leadership as needed.
  • Escalate issues involving legal risk, financial exposure, or policy exceptions to firm leadership
  • Determine what costs are eligible to be captured at distribution and ensure accurate accounting treatment. promptly.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for case cost, settlement, and distribution-related questions.
  • Track and manage distribution volume, turnaround time, and performance against firm goals.
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in current processes and recommend improvements.
You Have
  • 5+ years of experience in settlement distributions, legal operations, trust accounting, or law firm finance.
  • Strong understanding of settlement workflows, case expenses, liens, and trust accounting requirements.
  • Experience managing or supervising staff.
