Job description

Position Summary

The Outage Management Specialist within the Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) Reporting & Analytics group is responsible for supporting distribution reliability reporting, analytics, the Outage Management System (OMS) dashboard, and various outage management tools. This role is intended to provide foundational support for emerging analytics tools and pilot programs, helping to stabilize and operationalize these capabilities as they scale. This position is critical to enabling successful deployment and long-term sustainability of our analytics initiatives. 

The position partners cross-functionally with Distribution Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, Capital Portfolio, and IT teams to support distribution analytics platforms. Additionally, the role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives by integrating new data sources, enhancing analytical capabilities, and supporting evolving grid modernization and analytics platform efforts.

Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of safety in daily activities

  • Exhibit a strong desire to learn new tasks, tools, and technologies

  • Supporting day-to-day operations of distribution analytics software and pilot platforms. 

  •  Coordinating issue triage, defect tracking, and resolution with IT and vendors 

  • Supporting implementation and rollout of new analytics tools and functionality 

  •  Developing documentation, process flows, and user guidance 

  •  Monitoring system performance to ensure data accuracy and reliability 

  • Coordinating across Operations, Engineering, IT, and analytics stakeholders

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of  data used across the organization

  • Develop, test, and maintain dashboards and analytical tools to provide actionable insights into system performance

  • Propose enhancements and continuously improve reporting and visualization capabilities

  • Conduct business-specific research, analyze and interpret data, and develop actionable recommendations

  • Assist IT developers with database design and modifications using tools such as TOAD

  • Analyze outage and asset data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement

  • Provide analytical support to Distribution Operations, Engineering, and Regulatory teams

  • Support rate case discovery and other regulatory data requests

  • Provide analytical support during storms and major outage events

  • Ensure outage information provided to customers is accurate and consistent across 

Qualifications

Advanced / Senior Outage Management Specialist:

REQUIRED:

  • Associates degree in an engineering or IT related discipline.
  • In lieu of a degree, must have a minimum of 5 years-experience in one of the following fields or a related discipline; IT, DCC/TCC operations or Engineering. 
  • Demonstrated a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizations to form consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Understanding of various distribution equipment and the operation of the electrical distribution system.
  • Thorough understanding of the FirstEnergy Manual of Operations and the APH.
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office, NMS, GIS, EMS/SCADA and other internal systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Understanding of the FirstEnergy storm restoration process.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects/assignments at once.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Results focus with attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task, strong bias for action, is a self-starter
  • Willingness for occasional travel within the United States and the FirstEnergy footprint

HIGHLY PREFERRED:

  • Project and process management skills

  • Skilled in the development, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources and the ability to apply the information to solve problems.
  • Familiarity with the FirstEnergy SCADA (EMS) system and its components is a plus. 
  • Related work experience and knowledge of Distribution System Operations a plus.
  • Knowledge of other FEU systems, GIS, ADMS, Experience with database query tools (TOAD, SQL) 
  • Experience with PowerBI
