The University of Nebraska's College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) is one of nine colleges at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a comprehensive, land grant, Big10 research-intensive university. CEHS is one of the few colleges in the country whose programs span broad fields of education, health, wellness and fitness, human services, and hospitality industries. Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals, families, schools and communities and strengthen the relationships among them. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs has leadership and administrative responsibilities focused on undergraduate and graduate curriculum, program evaluation, innovative pedagogy that prepares graduates to be life-long learners and contributors to the workforce, and creating a climate that emphasizes and fosters a welcoming and engaged college community. This will be an Academic Year (AY) or Fiscal Year (FY) appointment, at up to 0.70 FTE apportioned as 100% administration, and supported with an administrative stipend up to $15,000 and summer salary (AY only). There would be at least a .30 FTE faculty position with a negotiable apportionment in the faculty member's department home. Responsibilities include:
1) Student Success and Academic Supporta. Work collaboratively with the Senior Director of Student Services to support and cultivate innovative advising, retention, and degree completion initiatives.
b. Address academic appeals, grievances, and policy exceptions in accordance with university and college procedures.
c. Promote and develop initiatives that support co-curricular and applied experiences that promote student success and career development.
2) Academic Leadership and Program Oversighta. Provide leadership and oversight of the college's undergraduate and graduate curriculum committees, Academic Affairs (including curriculum development, reviews, and assessment), and instructional technology.
b. Provide leadership and oversight of the Teachers Scholars Academy.
c. Provide leadership and oversight of the Interactive Distance Education Alliance (IDEA).
d. Foster collaborations and partnerships among units with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
e. Oversee academic policies, procedures, and standards related to instruction, grading, progression, and program completion.
f. Foster a respectful and inclusive culture in which contributions are appreciated and recognized, collaboration and innovation are encouraged, and the abilities of all are engaged to fully recognize the potential of the team.
3) Accreditation and Compliancea. Lead and coordinate accreditation efforts, including HLC, CAEP, and other specialized program accreditation.
b. Work collaboratively with the CEHS Office of Accreditation, Placement and Licensure team related to educator preparation program compliance with state standards, licensure, regulatory requirements and accreditation.
c. Oversee the quality assurance system of data collection, analysis, and reporting related to student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
3) Communication and Collaborationa. Work collaboratively with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Dean of Graduate Studies; facilitate linkages with university offices, committees, and other partners; serve as a college representative on the University Wide Assessment Committee, Academic Solutions Council and others as needed.
b. Engage external stakeholders - including P-12 partners, community organizations and industry and global partners - to cultivate, nurture and sustain collaborative relationships that advance high quality initiatives and mutually beneficial partnerships.
c. Foster collaborative, interdisciplinary activities among academic units.
d. Ensure opportunities are open to all, encompass all constituencies and efforts are made to engage with a variety of audiences.
e. Partner with the college Strategic Communications Director to share successes and outcomes of Academic Affairs.
4) Vision and Innovationa. Contribute to strategic planning and implementation related to Academic Affairs, enrollment management, and instructional innovation.
b. Support the development of new programs, concentrations, and delivery modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, certificates, micro-credentials).
c. Develop a future direction with input from departments, students, and stakeholders that encompasses all programs and facilitates individual and collective efforts to hold high standards for Academic Affairs and student learning.
d. Seek and deploy strategic resources to advance and elevate Academic Affairs.
5) Teaching, Research, and Service: There would be a .30 FTE faculty position with a negotiable apportionment in the faculty member's department home. Candidate would engage in academic activities based on applicant's strengths, interests and needs of the home department and college.
Why this role, why now.
This position is critical for the success of the college, particularly as it pertains to the national accreditation and state certification requirements for our educator preparation programs. We also have several nationally accredited programs across the college - each of our five departments has at least one accredited program. The need for this position certainly extends beyond accreditation. Improving the student experience, both in and out of the classroom, is a priority given the current importance of attracting and retaining students in our challenging budget climate. This position will also be important to help us strengthen and develop new enrollment pathways, including community colleges and online initiatives.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in discipline aligned with area of expertise.
• Appointment in CEHS as a tenured faculty or Professor of Practice at the rank of Associate or higher.
• Successful record of teaching, scholarship, and mentorship of students at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Leadership experience with curriculum development, modern assessment practices, P-12 school engagement, and/or program accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Appointment in CEHS as a tenured Full Professor or Full Professor of Practice.
• Experience with formal program evaluation.
• Familiarity with formal education programs and practices that create a learning environment where all students, regardless of background, can thrive.
• Demonstration of management and leadership abilities to foster a culture of interdisciplinary and innovative academic programs.
