Police Dispatch Manager

The Police Dispatch Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for the BYU Police Dispatch Center and Security Control Center, ensuring continuous 24/7 monitoring of life-safety systems and emergency communications. This position leads teams responsible for dispatching police, fire, medical, security, and facilities personnel while supporting a safe and secure campus environment. The manager oversees staffing, training, quality assurance, compliance, and the effective use of technology to ensure exceptional emergency response services.

What you'll do in this position:
  • Lead, supervise, and develop full-time, part-time, and student employees in the Police Dispatch and Security Control Center
  • Oversee 24/7 dispatch operations, including police, fire, medical, security, maintenance, and emergency communications
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate dispatch and security control personnel
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and industry policies, procedures, and certification requirements
  • Maintain quality assurance programs and support continuous improvement of dispatch operations
  • Oversee staff training, technical reference materials, and certification tracking
  • Coordinate emergency communications, alarm monitoring, security camera systems, and incident response
  • Build collaborative relationships with campus departments and external public safety agencies
  • Support implementation and training of dispatch technologies and security systems
  • Maintain professional certifications and promote ongoing staff development
What qualifies you for this role:Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Five or more years of police, fire, medical, or public safety dispatch experience
  • Strong leadership, team development, and supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of public safety communications, emergency dispatch operations, and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Ability to remain calm and lead effectively during emergency and high-stress situations
  • Experience managing technology-based communication and security systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including POST Dispatch, PowerPhone, Utah BCI, CPR/First Aid, NIMS, and other position-specific certifications
Preferred:
  • Master's degree
  • Experience leading complex public safety communication or emergency operations centers
  • Experience implementing quality assurance and training programs
  • Familiarity with public safety technologies such as CAD, Genetec, Spillman, AVTEC, and emergency management systems

Pay Grade: 53

Typical Starting Pay:

$35.00to $45.50/hourly

$73,000.00to $95,000.00 annually

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
