About the Role:

The Dispatcher / Scale Operator is responsible for coordinating daily dispatch operations, supporting scale house activities, and assisting with warehouse operations to ensure efficient and timely service. This role manages transportation logistics, processes inbound and outbound shipments, maintains accurate records, and provides excellent customer service in a fast-paced recycling environment.

Shift: M-F, 8AM-4:30PM (Job Type: Full-time) | Location: Normal, IL | Pay Rate: $19.00-$22.00, based on qualifications, skills, experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily dispatch operations and routing to ensure efficient, on-time service across multiple locations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, drivers, and haulers by responding to inquiries and resolving service issues.
  • Monitor driver activity, communicate route updates, and coordinate equipment needs with operations.
  • Operate scale house systems to accurately process inbound and outbound shipments, verify documentation, and maintain records.
  • Maintain accurate operational data, reports, and administrative documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while communicating service updates, delays, and scheduling changes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
  • Support daily operations by performing additional administrative and operational duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous dispatch, transportation, logistics, fleet management, scale house, or related operations experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel); experience with transportation management systems is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer service abilities.
  • Familiarity with GPS/GIS routing systems and shipping/receiving processes preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normal work environment is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.
