Position Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transportation activities by assigning and monitoring routes, communicating with drivers, tracking freight movement, and ensuring customer commitments are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This position serves as the primary communication link between drivers, operations, warehouse personnel, customer service, fleet, and management to support the successful execution of daily operations.

Working under the direction of the Operations Manager or Night Operations Manager, the Dispatcher provides real-time operational support, responds to changing operational priorities, maintains accurate documentation, and ensures timely communication throughout the transportation process.

The Dispatcher owns the coordination, communication, and documentation of assigned transportation activities while supporting operational efficiency and exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesDispatch Operations
  • Coordinate daily driver assignments and route dispatch.
  • Monitor route progress and communicate operational updates.
  • Communicate delivery changes, delays, and service concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Coordinate freight movement with Warehouse, Customer Service, Fleet, and Operations.
  • Assist with route planning and scheduling adjustments.
  • Monitor equipment availability and communicate operational concerns.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records and operational documentation.
Driver Communication
  • Serve as the primary communication point for assigned drivers.
  • Communicate customer instructions, operational priorities, and route updates.
  • Provide drivers with operational support throughout the workday.
  • Escalate driver concerns or operational issues to management when appropriate.
  • Maintain professional communication with all drivers.
Customer & Operational Support
  • Coordinate customer service requests with operational departments.
  • Communicate service issues and recovery efforts.
  • Assist with customer implementation activities.
  • Monitor operational commitments and communicate delays proactively.
  • Support cross-department communication to ensure operational continuity.
Documentation & Administrative Support
  • Maintain dispatch logs and operational records.
