This diverse team – representing a wide variety of disciplines and talents from technical directors, writers, and lighting designers to choreographers, cosmetologists, and music producers – brings magical worlds to life through technical expertise, performance excellence, incomparable ingenuity, unparalleled spectacle… and a dash of pixie dust.

The CAD Designer (Seasonal) with Disney Live Entertainment (DLE) synthesizes technical design intent for events, theatrical shows, and parades that delight guests at Disney Parks and Resorts around the world. Whether developing new shows or sustaining our existing offerings, DLE CAD Designers create the drawing packages, models, and visualization resources that bring our shows to life.
In this role, you will translate ideas and sketches through 3D CAD/BIM Software into documentation and models used by our partners to produce a variety of themed entertainment offerings. This job is highly collaborative, with CAD Designers constantly acting as information conduits to the larger design team. Your design work may support scopes as small as one-day events and as large as decade-spanning venues. To ensure the success of each DLE offering, you will be expected to lead design reviews, document markups, and model coordination efforts on your projects.

You will report to the Manager – Fireworks & Technical Resources.

This is a Casual Temporary or Seasonal role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, as hours will fluctuate based on business needs.

What You Will Do:

  • Generate 2D and 3D design elements using Autodesk Revit and other BIM software. Elements include but are not limited to plans, detail views, 3D renders, and solid models

  • Learn and follow visual standards for Disney Live Entertainment in coordination with other Walt Disney Company business units

  • Assess creative direction to identify the scope of drafting needs and visualization functions

  • Forecast timing of all tasks, while being cognizant of the budget

  • Provide conceptual design support to Directors, Producers, and other Designers

  • Organize and maintain a standardized design package for all discipline-specific design documentation and drawings

  • Ensure design presentation fidelity by developing and applying appropriate visual materials to model elements

  • Provide model support during the pre-visualization and programming phases

  • Assist each design discipline in creating As-Installed documentation

  • Stay current with industry computer graphics visualization software and technology

  • Maintain show documentation, model archives, and other shared resources for reuse by the larger team

  • Participate in the delivery of design intent documents that result in a realized design for our guests

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for other disciplines with regard to standards, and coordinated model reviews

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in show development and operation of live shows drafting ground plans, detail drawings, schematics, 3D images, etc

  • Experience in themed design, drafting schematics, floor plans, and three-dimensional models utilizing Autodesk Revit

  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Computer Aided Design and coordinated models

  • Ability to integrate design intent data from various platforms (2D and 3D)

  • Ability to translate 3D models to 2D design intent drawings

  • Working knowledge of current technology and industry standards for a wide variety of theatrical designs (audio, video, broadcast, effects, lighting, and control systems, scenery and facilities construction methodology) as applied to live show and facility systems (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.)

  • Ability to organize and delegate tasks to partners with limited project knowledge

  • Understanding of the design development process

  • Proven ability to generate schematic design documentation in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to deliver an established scope on schedule and within budget

  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills with the ability to express creative ideas and problem solve

  • Ability to work flexible hours - nights, weekends, holidays - including occasional travel

  • General computer skills including basic Microsoft 365 products and industry-specific software

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company

  • Familiar with Rhino, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Solidworks, Point Cloud Data, and Data Meshing

  • Experience with Theme Park design

Education:

  • College degree or equivalent experience in Theatrical or Architectural disciplines

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $59,400.00-$76,800.00 per year based on a 24 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
