The ABC NewsMedicalUnitis seeking a sharp, highly motivated Producer passionate about delivering high-impact health andmedicaljournalism across all ABC News platforms.

This team player will bring exceptional editorial judgment, investigative research skills, strong instincts for character development, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom. The ideal candidate is deeply curious, organized under pressure, and eager to help shape ambitious reporting that informs millions of viewers daily.

This role is central to both breaking news coverage and long-form enterprise reporting, while also contributing to dynamic, real-time storytelling across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Work withthe MedicalUnitExecutive Producer to identify, recruit, onboard, mentor, and supervise resident physicians contributing to ABC News coverage

  • Pitch, research, and develop original health andmedicalstories for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

  • Produce and create compelling content, translating complexmedicalreporting into clear, engaging, audience-friendly storytelling.

  • Partner closely with correspondents, producers, and editorial leaders to strengthen breaking news and enterprise reporting withmedicalexpertise and context.

  • Conduct deep background research, fact-checking, sourcing, and document review acrossmedical, scientific, and public health topics.

  • Find and secure strong real-world characters and story subjects for impactful, character-driven reporting.

  • Respond quickly and accurately to a high volume of editorial requests across platforms.

  • Assist in scripting, producing, and field producing health andmedicalstories, interviews, and special projects.

  • Coordinate logistics for shoots, interviews, travel, and field production.

  • Stay current on emergingmedicalresearch, public health developments, and trends shaping the healthcare landscape, developing a strong network of expert sources.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of newsroom, reporting, production, or investigative research experience.

  • Has a strong understanding ofmedicalstudies, including methodology, statistical significance, bias, limitations, and real-world implications.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and communicate complexmedicalresearch clearly to both editorial teams and a broad audience.

  • Proven experience in identifying compelling story subjects and developing character-driven reporting and engagingmedicaltelevision segments.

  • Strong editorial instincts and excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously under tight deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to engage effectively with reporters, producers, and executives.

  • Flexibility to work extended or irregular hours during breaking and ongoing news coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience as amedicalwriter, producer, reporter, or health journalist.

  • Experience with open-source research, public records requests, data analysis tools, and emerging newsroom technologies, including Artificial Intelligence.

  • Background in public health, medicine, science journalism, or a related field.

  • Ability to shoot, and edit

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $110,100 to $147,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
