Residency Program Outline

The Providence Leadership Institute is intended to provide Biblical leadership training and mentoring for both pastoral and lay ministry leadership. The Institute includes 6 areas of leadership training: Ministry Residency, Ministry Internships, Advanced Christian Leadership, Church Ministry and Leadership, Biblical Counseling, and Next Generation Leadership.

Job Description

The residency is a 24-month program with 2 available tracks that can be customized to the needs and calling of each resident.

Track 1 - Ministry Training - Residents have the opportunity to take EQUIP courses in:

  • Pastoral Ministry and Leadership
  • Bible Exposition 1 & 2
  • Discipleship
  • Biblical Counseling
  • Missions
  • Evangelism
  • Church Planting

Through the Ministry Training Track, Residents have the potential to earn up to 24 hours of credit at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Track 2 - Mentored Ministry
- Residents have the opportunity to serve alongside Providence Church Pastors and Ministry Leaders in a ministry-specific area of their choosing. Areas include:

  • Senior Leadership
  • Kid's Discipleship
  • Student Discipleship
  • Discipleship/Spiritual Formation
  • Counseling
  • Worship
  • Missions

Within the Mentored Ministry Track, Residents will be given ministry assignments and responsibilities within their ministry area and also be exposed to overall church leadership.

Each resident, regardless of track, will also participate in a weekly seminar with other residents focused on understanding and developing leadership skills and various facets of ministry and operations within a church.

Resident Expectations

Each resident is expected to commit 35 hrs/week training and serving within the Residency. This would include the weekly leadership seminar and ministry team and staff meetings.

Each resident is expected to raise funds to support themselves while enrolled in the Residency. Training will be required and provided to create a budget and raise funds prior to the start of the Residency.

Each resident will report first to the Ministry Residency leader and then to their respective ministry-level coach.
