Position Overview

Xylem is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Private Cloud Data Center Operations team. In this role, you will design, support, and enhance the critical software, servers, and infrastructure that power Xylem's Private Cloud Data Centers.

You will work across a broad infrastructure landscape-including enterprise storage, orchestration, automation, backups, disaster recovery, operating systems, networking, virtualization, and public cloud integrations-while partnering closely with peer teams, vendors, and security operations. This role is ideal for a technically strong, collaborative engineer who thrives in complex, missioncritical environments and is passionate about building resilient, highperforming systems.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support and collaborate with peer teams on enterprise storage, automation, and data center technologies to drive platform upgrades and orchestration initiatives.

  • Lead and participate in infrastructure deployments, upgrades, and troubleshooting across storage, backups, disaster recovery, monitoring, networking, and virtualization platforms.

  • Support migrations and integrations between Private Cloud and Public Cloud environments.

  • Administer and maintain infrastructure tools, including access management, integrations, configuration, and upgrades.

  • Apply firmware and software updates to host systems and coordinate remediation activities with hardware and software vendors as needed.

  • Participate in operating system and environment patching cycles to maintain stability, performance, and security.

  • Collaborate with peers and leadership on critical infrastructure domains including data protection, backup strategy, compute, networking, and virtualization.

  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution, including scheduled DR tests, to validate recovery objectives and service readiness.

  • Define and implement standards and best practices for managing a complex, multidatacenter environment with high availability and performance requirements.

  • Partner with information security teams to maintain a strong security and compliance posture.

  • Participate in a paid oncall rotation and travel periodically to support Private Cloud Data Centers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 7+ years of experience supporting enterprisegrade infrastructure and applications in an operational environment.

  • 4+ years of handson experience with enterprise storage, SAN, Windows Server, and Cisco UCS technologies, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

  • 4+ years of experience supporting VMware environments across multiple data center locations.

  • 2+ years of experience administering automation tools in an enterprise environment.

  • 2+ years of experience administering enterprise monitoring platforms.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reporting and technical documentation.

  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage workload with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, or NetApp.

  • Experience with NetApp technologies including ONTAP, SnapMirror, SnapCenter, deduplication, compression, and Cloud Insights.

  • Experience with configuration and infrastructureascode tools such as Ansible and Terraform.

  • Handson experience supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions such as Cohesity and Zerto.

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as Datadog or LogicMonitor.

  • Experience supporting container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in production environments.
