Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) at our Cancer Care & Infusion Center supports patients primarily at our Roosevelt location, with occasional coverage at our Vernal site. In this role, you'll provide specialized care to patients undergoing infusion therapies.
The RN is a professional caregiver responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Utilizing the nursing process, technology, therapeutic interventions, and evidence-based practice, the RN collaborates with other healthcare team members while also engaging in patient education and mentoring.
In this role, you'll work closely with oncologists, physicians, pharmacists, and fellow nurses to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate treatment. This position plays a key role in enhancing patient outcomes, ensuring clinical excellence, and supporting a high standard of operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and apply the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation).
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, and other infusion treatments per provider orders, adhering to medication safety protocols.
  • Initiate and manage venous access (peripheral and central), including PICC line placement (training available if needed).
  • Monitor patients' hemodynamic status and adjust care plans in collaboration with providers.
  • Demonstrate clinical judgment, sound decision-making, and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs and CNAs, fostering professionalism and teamwork.
  • Mentor and orient new or temporary staff.
  • Maintain compliance with ethical, legal, and professional nursing standards.

Documentation & Compliance
  • Document care accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Review charts and physician orders to ensure timely, appropriate care; apply charges for rendered services.
  • Obtain and verify informed consent as required.
  • Participate in performance evaluations, competency assessments, quality improvement initiatives, and workplace safety/infection control programs.

Professionalism & Teamwork
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effects, and follow-up care.
  • Assist in discharge planning, outpatient referrals, and home health coordination.
  • Support operational flow by working with administrative and support departments.
  • Participate in hospital initiatives, community outreach events, disaster preparedness, and educational programs.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and emotional resilience in a dynamic outpatient oncology setting.
  • Uphold organizational values and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Administrative & Support Duties:
  • Perform clerical duties including appointment scheduling, phone communication, and documentation support. Assist with medication preauthorization workflows, support cost-effective supply use, and coordinate tasks to enhance clinic efficiency.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness activities and occasionally assist other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Regulatory Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) preferred
  • Current Utah RN license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - within 6 months of hire
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - within 6 months of hire
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Fundamentals Certificate - within 6 months of hire
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - within 2-3 years of hire
