The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division.

Are you passionate about workforce development and mental health advocacy?  This position provides personalized counseling and employment support to individuals with significant mental and behavioral health disabilities, empowering job seekers to achieve competitive, integrated employment. 

This position works closely with individuals to create personalized rehabilitation plans that help them reach their goals. Counselors guide people through career planning and job development, provide on-site coaching, and ensure access to assistive devices. Additional duties include purchasing and quality checks for goods and services. This position also collaborates with Workforce partners, treatment teams, community providers, businesses, and other stakeholders-offering guidance and support to ensure individuals with disabilities receive high quality, professional services.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of psychosocial assessment and vocational rehabilitation counseling. 

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and disability rights, culture, and history.

  • Ability to be flexible and balance between literal adherence to rules and the use of policies as a guide.

  • Skill in working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Ability to interpret and use medical and psychological information to make sound decisions.

  • Ability to be proactive, organized, and manage caseloads.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

o   Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field with coursework eligible to sit for certification. 

o   Two years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, career counseling, human services, or human resources.

o   Certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is highly preferred.

o   Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
