Job description

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division.

This position provides guidance and counseling to individuals with disabilities in achieving employment outcomes. Responsibilities include developing individual rehabilitation plans, counseling consumers on job and career development goals, providing on-site job coaching or assistive devices, approving, purchasing, and monitoring the quality of goods and services, and consulting and coaching Workforce partners, community rehabilitation providers, businesses, and other stakeholders on serving individuals with disabilities.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of psychosocial assessment and vocational rehabilitation counseling.

  • Knowledge of assistive technology.

  • Knowledge of disability rights, culture, and history.

  • Ability to be flexible and balance between literal adherence to rules and the use of policies as a guide.

  • Skill in working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Ability to interpret and use medical and psychological information to make sound decisions.

  • Ability to be proactive, organized, and manage caseloads.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a field of study reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation counseling, disability studies, human services, business administration, special education, psychology, or communications, or another field that reasonably prepares individuals to work with consumers and employers.

    • One year of experience in rehabilitation counseling, career counseling, human services, or human resources.

    • Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

    • Preferred qualifications - Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or related degree for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
