Brief Position Overview
The Program Coordinator I supports the mission of the institution by promoting equitable access and inclusion for students with disabilities. Reporting to the Director of Disability Support Services (DSS), the position is responsible for coordinating student accommodations, including assistive technology training, testing arrangements, and related support, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the ADA Amendment, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The coordinator works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure programmatic and physical access while fostering awareness of disability rights and institutional responsibilities. The role communicates, encourages, and recommends best practices to support student success and accessibility, while leading by example through a positive, professional demeanor and a willingness to support students. The position also provides administrative support to Disability Support Services, including maintaining required documentation, and contributes to ongoing program assessment while remaining current with best practices and emerging technologies in support of the university's commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet walk-in visitors; answer and route telephone calls to the appropriate area
• Conduct brief informational sessions with students and prospective students regarding the accommodation process
• Schedule student appointments and coordinate communications with DSS staff
• Review confidential documentation to identify functional limitations related to a student's disability
• Conduct initial evaluations of student needs; develop and approve reasonable accommodations; monitor student progress and modify accommodations as needed
• Coordinate testing logistics, including scheduling exams, proctoring, collecting materials, and ensuring approved accommodations are in place
• Coordinate academic, housing, and testing accommodations in collaboration with DSS staff, faculty, and campus partners
• Coordinate assistive technology services (e.g., recording lectures, text-to-speech, low-vision supports, equipment checkout, and basic troubleshooting)
• Manage document conversion and alternative-format materials, including accessible PDFs, audio, Braille, and electronic textbooks
• Coordinate video captioning and accessibility services with faculty, IT staff, and third-party vendors
• Maintain confidential student records in compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements
• Assist with data collection, report generation, and program support activities
• Assist with updating departmental resources (e.g., printed materials, web pages)
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners
• Assist with monitoring and ordering office supplies
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the DSS Director
Qualities:• Demonstrates punctuality and dependability, including consistent attendance and timeliness
• Excellent oral communication skills, including active listening, clear and professional verbal communication, and effective participation in meetings
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and informatively, edit for accuracy and grammar, adapt writing style as needed; ability to read and interpret written and numerical information
• Strong counseling and interpersonal skills, including the ability to respond effectively to challenging or emotionally sensitive situations while meeting commitments
• Ability to learn and trains others in the use of assistive technology for coursework, including, but not limited to, media captioning, accessible classrooms, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, screen readers, and other relevant software
Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift and carry assistive technology and office supplies.

Bachelor's degree in relevant field
Experience Required:
Three years in related field and/or experience in higher education
Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Master's degree in related field
Experience Preferred:
• Three years in related field and/or experience in higher education, with demonstrated proficiency in computer systems, including Banner and Accommodate
• Knowledge of the medical, educational, social, and legal aspects of disabilities
• Knowledge of accommodations management software, such as Accommodate
