Job description

Senior Pre Fabricated (Pre Fab) Designer Job Description
The Senior Pre-Fab Designer at Improve Group (IG) is a highly experienced technical expert responsible for leading the design, integration, and execution of prefabricated building systems across DoD and commercial projects. This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in pre-fabricated construction methodologies-bringing deep expertise in systems such as DIRTT, Falkbuilt, and comparable solutions-and plays a critical role in advancing IG's OMEGA platform and prefabrication capabilities.
This position bridges design, manufacturing, and construction by translating complex client requirements into fully coordinated, constructible design solutions. The Senior Pre-Fab Designer not only delivers high-quality drawings and models, but also guides, mentors, and elevates the technical capabilities of the broader design team. This role does not have direct reports but operates as a subject matter expert, providing advanced technical insight, supporting team members in solving complex design problems, and optimizing workflows across the pre-fabrication design process.
For a highly qualified candidate meeting all experience requirements, this role offers the flexibility to be remotely based within the United States. Travel of up to 30% is expected and will include a mix of client and project site visits, as well as periodic travel to our Albuquerque, NM office to support team connection, collaboration, and ongoing learning. All travel will be company paid.
Priority consideration will be given to candidates located within one hour of a major airport with strong flight accessibility, particularly in Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Arizona, or New Mexico. Candidates outside these regions may be considered based on business needs and company discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Pre-Fab Design & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the technical authority on prefabricated systems, including Falkbuilt, and similar solutions, ensuring best practices in design, coordination, and constructability.
  • Lead the development of highly detailed 2-D drawings (AutoCAD) and 3-D BIM models (Revit) across all project phases (Programming through Construction Administration).
  • Oversee and contribute to the production of submittals, shop drawings, and record drawing sets for Prefab manufacturers.
  • Ensure designs meet all structural requirements, codes, manufacturer constraints, and client specifications.
  • Drive design standardization, system integration, and process improvements for pre-fab workflows.

Project Execution & Coordination
  • Partner with Architecture, Operations, and external stakeholders to deliver integrated, technically sound project solutions.
  • Lead complex coordination between design teams, manufacturers, installation crews, and project managers.
  • Conduct site visits, validate field conditions, and ensure precise translation of site measurements into designs.
  • Resolve design conflicts and deficiencies during design development, fabrication, and installation phases.

SME Support, Mentorship & Team Enablement
  • Act as the go-to technical resource for the Pre-Fab team and cross-functional partners.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical coaching to designers, improving overall team capabilities and design quality.
  • Support internal QA/QC processes, including advanced Revit model reviews and design audits.
  • Contribute to training materials, design standards, and knowledge sharing across the organization.

Innovation & OMEGA Platform Growth
  • Partner with the Pre-Fab Design Supervisor to identify, evaluate, and implement new prefabricated systems, materials, and solutions.
  • Support R&D initiatives and development of scalable pre-fab offerings aligned with IG's OMEGA platform.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, positioning IG as a leader in prefabricated construction solutions.

Client, Sales & Strategic Support
  • Support business development by providing technical expertise during client engagements, proposals, and solution development.
  • Help articulate the value and capabilities of prefabricated solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with manufacturers, vendors, and strategic partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with prefabrication partners (e.g., Falkbuilt, and similar manufacturers), serving as a key point of contact while continuously expanding knowledge of their systems, capabilities, and evolving offerings.

Job Experience & Requirements:
  • Expert-level proficiency in Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD, with deep experience in complex system modeling and coordination.
  • Strong expertise in prefabricated wall systems and integrated construction solutions (DIRTT, Falkbuilt highly preferred).
  • Advanced understanding of construction documentation, submittals, and fabrication processes.
  • Ability to solve complex design challenges and translate technical requirements into executable designs.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and elevate team performance.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor's degree required (Architecture, Construction, or related field).
  • 7+ years of experience in architecture/design, including full project lifecycle delivery (Programming, SD/DD/CD, CA).
  • 3+ years of experience working with prefabricated systems required.
    • Direct experience with DIRTT, Falkbuilt, or similar systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience in DoD/Federal projects is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Revit, AutoCAD
    • Bluebeam
    • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
    • Microsoft Office (Teams, Dynamics or similar CRM)
    • Visualization tools (Enscape, Twinmotion)
  • Ability to gain access to DoD facilities (required).
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance.
