Job description

We are seeking a visionary Director of Commerce Engineering & Delivery to lead the technical evolution of our digital storefronts and bring to life exciting consumer experiences that convey JD US's brand culture. The successful candidate will oversee a multi-disciplinary team delivering web and mobile app front ends, microservices, and integrations with our core eCommerce, Customer, Merchandising, and Supply Chain platforms.

As a key leadership figure, you will balance technical excellence with business outcomes, ensuring our platform is scalable, resilient, and optimized for maximum revenue growth. This leader will effectively exhibit JD Finish Line's core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties:

  • Technical Strategy and Leadership

    • Define the technical roadmap for a headless, microservices-based eCommerce ecosystem.

    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and accountability.

    • Establish strong relationships and credibility with corporate function executives and the IT Leadership team.

    • Lead the group through initial assessment of a business problem and corresponding solution definition; contribute to cost benefit analysis and influence budget allocation.

    • Provide high-level management, coaching, and mentoring to create an environment which encourages accountability and strong staff development; oversee the hiring, training, motivating, and retaining of top talent.

  • Agile Delivery & Release Management

    • Partner with the Digital Product group to execute the end-to-end SDLC using Agile and ensure timely delivery of initiatives and features.

    • Drive progress discussions with business partners, highlighting risks and opportunities within sprint cycles.

    • Oversee Release Management, maintaining a CI/CD pipeline that allows for frequent, low-risk deployments without disrupting the consumer experience.

  • AI Innovation

    • Leverage AI/ML: Lead the integration of Generative AI and modeling to enhance product discovery, personalization, and dynamic targeted offers to drive conversion and AOV.

    • Champion "AI-first" engineering practices, using automation to optimize code quality and deployment speed.

  • Performance & Operations

  • Accountable for site reliability, performance tuning (Core Web Vitals), load testing, and 24/7 technical operations.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to system uptime, latency, and technical debt.

  • Manage vendor relationships and third-party SaaS integrations (e.g., hosting providers and payment gateways).

Required Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or 8 -12 years in Retail application delivery; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with retail processes and platforms. At least 10 years additional progressive IT experience. Proven track record of managing, directing and developing staff. Demonstrated ability to partner with business peers to drive desired results.
