Veterinary Assistant

Become an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant – Wheaton, IL

Position Summary As a Veterinary Assistant at Scout, you'll play a vital role in supporting our clinical team and ensuring a smooth, efficient experience for pets and their people. You'll assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, maintain a clean and organized environment, and help deliver exceptional service during urgent visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Safely restrain animals and assist with diagnostics and sample collection
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, equipment, and common areas
  • Prepare medications and supplies as directed
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
  • Assist with patient intake, discharge, and follow-up care
  • Uphold Scout's standards for safety, empathy, and teamwork

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a veterinary or animal care setting
  • Strong animal handling skills and comfort with urgent/emergent cases
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Preferred

  • Veterinary Assistant Certification or coursework
  • Experience in urgent care or emergency veterinary settings
  • Familiarity with veterinary software and digital records
