JOB SUMMARY:

This position is a senior-level technical professional responsible for the design, engineering, optimization, and lifecycle management of the organization’s enterprise telecommunications systems. This role serves as a subject-matter expert and technical lead, owning complex telecom initiatives end-to-end and influencing strategic decisions related to communication platforms, vendors, and architecture. This position also operates with a high degree of independence and provides technical leadership without direct people management responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plans and engineers’ enterprise telecommunications systems and projects, including scope definition, schedules, budgets, and implementation strategies.

2. Designs, implements, and optimizes telecom solutions such as VoIP, SIP, eFax, call routing, call center platforms, and unified communications to meet performance, availability, and security requirements.

3. Leads complex or enterprise-wide telecom initiatives from requirements gathering and architecture through deployment, testing, and post-implementation optimization.

4. Serves as the technical authority for assigned telecom platforms, ensuring reliability, scalability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational standards and best practices.

5. Analyzes call volume, utilization, and costs to support capacity planning, platform optimization, ROI evaluation, and budget forecasting.

6. Evaluates emerging telecom technologies and vendor solutions, develops recommendations, and coordinates vendor due diligence, estimates, and bills of materials.

7. Partners with service providers and vendors to resolve escalated issues, manage technical relationships, and ensure service level agreements are met.

8. Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation, including architecture diagrams, standards, operational procedures, and physical/topological system drawings.

9. Collaborates with IT leadership, security teams, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders, providing subject matter expertise, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting on-call and escalation responsibilities as needed.

10. Other related duties as assigned by manager or designee.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field; equivalent professional

experience in a relevant industry may also be considered.

Certifications or Licenses:

• Certifications: Network+, CCNA, or relevant certifications in networking or telecom preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise telecommunications engineering.

• Demonstrated experience supporting and engineering large-scale or multi-site telecom environments.

Skills and Competencies:

• Advanced knowledge of enterprise telephony, VoIP, SIP, call routing, and telecom integrations.

• Strong understanding of network fundamentals as they relate to voice and collaboration platforms.

• Proven analytical skills with the ability to evaluate performance metrics, capacity data, and cost models.

• Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex, multi-layer telecom issues.

• Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
