Job description

The Director - Technical Solutions will lead the overall technical sales strategy across multiple product categories and markets such as VMI, Kitting, and Contractor Services. This position will manage a large-scale team of people leaders responsible for project and/or sales specialists that sell technical services, products, and systems.  The Director will have responsibility for driving revenue growth and developing strategic partnerships to expand market presence for value added services. As a cross-functional leader, the Director will collaborate with multiple departments to ensure the alignment of technical sales with organizational goals, lead the development of future leaders, and shape the company's product and market innovation strategies. The Technical Solutions Director will be accountable for driving performance across the entire U.S. market while managing and developing a team of direct reports located within the United States. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the overall technical sales strategy with sales leadership, ensuring alignment with corporate goals across specific product categories, regions, and market segments.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that align technical sales with broader company objectives, working closely with sales, finance, own brands, and marketing to drive sales effectiveness and overall business growth. 
  • Manage and mentor a team of technical sales professionals, fostering leadership skills, and providing clear direction on achieving business goals. Implement talent development strategies, succession planning, and promote a strong sales culture across the team. 
  • Take ownership of revenue and growth targets for specific product verticals, driving the identification and execution of new business opportunities, including strategic partnerships, alliances, and expansions into new markets or regions with the broader sales team. 
  • Champion market and product innovation, ensuring technical sales insights and customer feedback are integrated into continuous improvement initiatives both internally and externally with suppliers. 
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key partners, ensuring long-term business growth, customer satisfaction, and maintaining the company's competitive edge. 
  • Monitor industry trends and competitors, ensuring the technical sales team is well-equipped with up-to-date knowledge and strategies to outperform market competition.
  • Ensure that all sales activities, presentations, and strategies deliver compelling value propositions that drive business growth. 
  • Achieve annual sales and growth targets by implementing technical sales strategies, analyzing industry trends, and coordinating efforts with sales vertical and business unit leadership. 
  • Compile and report key metrics related to technical sales performance, including pipeline development, market share growth, and competitive positioning, to senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree - Engineering or Business required
  • 10+ years experience in technical sales with strong technical acumen
  • 10+ years experience managing strategic partnerships
  • Knowledge of industry trends with a focus on using insights to drive technical sales strategies
  • Ability to spot new business opportunities and quickly evaluate opportunities
  • Ability to initiate and develop relationships with key decision makers both inside and outside company
  • Proven track record of leading and managing sales teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong business analysis skills
  • Experience collaborating across departments
  • Ability to travel 25% - 50%
  • Knowledge of industry including suppliers, customers, and competitors preferred
  • Knowledge of Wesco's existing business lines, strengths and challenges preferred
