Job description

OBAYASHI JAY DEE JV is seeking an experienced TBM Mechanical Superintendent responsible for overseeing all mechanical operations, maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and associated mechanical systems on the Cemetery Brook Drain Tunnel Project. This role ensures safe, efficient, and continuous TBM operation by leading mechanical crews, coordinating with field leadership, and maintaining compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and equipment performance requirements. This role will report to the General Superintendent based in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead mechanical crews responsible for TBM maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Ensure safe and efficient performance of TBM mechanical systems, including hydraulics, conveyors, ventilation, and gantries.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
  • Coordinate daily with field supervisors, electrical teams, and project engineering.
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Enforce safety protocols, including LOTO, JHAs, and site safety procedures.
  • Support equipment commissioning and demobilization activities.

Required
  • 8+ years of mechanical experience on heavy civil, underground, or tunneling projects.
  • 5+ years direct experience with TBM operations (EPB, slurry preferred, or hard-rock TBMs).
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and rotating equipment systems.
  • Experience supervising field crews in a tunneling or mining environment.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, TBM manufacturer manuals, and equipment schematics.
  • Strong commitment to safety and high-risk environment protocols.

Preferred
  • Experience on large-diameter pressurized-face TBM projects or drainage/water conveyance tunnels.
  • Prior work on municipal infrastructure or similar underground drainage projects.
  • OEM training certifications (Herrenknecht, Robbins, etc.).
  • Trade school, technical certificate, or Mechanical Engineering coursework.

Other:
  • Work on-site Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional overtimes on weekdays, Saturday & Sunday work as needed.
