The Director, Software Engineering manages the Display AdServing system, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, and alignment with strategic objectives. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, driving technical excellence through DevOps practices, cloud optimization, and system health monitoring. The director fosters high-performing teams through coaching and mentorship while managing cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment. By championing innovation and continuous improvement, this position ensures the successful implementation of technology roadmaps that support business growth and operational efficiency. 
  About the team:
The mission of Walmart Display Ads is to connect brand owners and shoppers with relevant display ads. We bring brand awareness and rich product information to shoppers and help brand owners grow their business. The Display AdServing team builds advanced services with cutting edge technologies, to understand shopper intent and surrounding context, serve relevant ads and optimize campaign performance. The team emphasizes strong project and stakeholder management, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. It fosters a culture of coaching, problem solving, and innovation to drive impactful results while maintaining operational efficiency and alignment with strategic priorities.
  What you'll do:
  • Lead execution of complex software, data, and AI/ML systems ensuring reliability, scalability, performance, and integration across platforms.
  • Oversee full software development lifecycle, championing DevOps practices and cloud cost optimization to enhance engineering efficiency.
  • Collaborate with XFN teams, including Product, Data Science and other engineering teams, to build roadmap and deliver features that support business objectives and drive up advertisers' ROAS.
  • Apply sound technical judgment to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement in processes and products.
  • Build and mentor high-performing teams, fostering professional growth and succession planning.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven leadership in managing complex software, data, and ML systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and integration.
  • Excellent skills in problem solving, roadmap alignment, project management, XFN communication and stakeholder management.
  • 2+ years experience of managing teams through leaders.
  • Effective coaching and mentorship capabilities to build high-performing engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with AdTech and AI/ML applications in online advertising.
  • Humility with high integrity, customer empathy and engineering excellence.
