Job Description Summary:
ModMed is hiring a driven, technically hands-on Director of Software Engineering to lead our Shared Services Platform value stream. This critical organization provides the foundational "engine" for the ModMed ecosystem, consisting of two high-impact Agile Release Trains (ARTs): mmAuth (Identity & Access Management) and mmPay (Payment Orchestration).
The incumbent is responsible for building a high-performing engineering organization that treats internal platforms as products. You will foster a culture of extreme ownership, performance, and craftsmanship, ensuring that our identity and payment services are the most reliable, secure, and scalable components in our stack. This is not an "ivory tower" role; we are looking for a leader who can dive into an architectural diagram or a code review while simultaneously scaling a multi-train organization.
What you'll do
  • Lead the Shared Services Value Stream: Direct two specialized Agile Release Trains:
    • mmAuth: Powering seamless, secure access using Keycloak and industry-standard protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML2).
    • mmPay: Managing mission-critical payment processing (Patient/Provider) integrated with Adyen.
  • Foster a "Platform as a Product" Culture:Push ownership and accountability down to the pod level, ensuring teams don't just "ship code" but "own the service" (including uptime, latency, and developer experience).
  • Hands-on Technical Leadership:Actively participate in architectural decisions and system design. You should be able to challenge technical assumptions and guide teams through complex integrations with 3rd party providers like Adyen or Keycloak.
  • AI-Driven Acceleration: Champion the use of AI-assisted development (e.g., GitHub Copilot, automated testing agents) to increase velocity, improve code quality, and reduce toil across the value stream.
  • Operational Excellence:Establish rigorous engineering metrics (SLIs/SLOs) focusing on the performance and high availability required for identity and financial transactions.
  • Strategic Alignment: Align the platform roadmap with the needs of various ModMed product lines, ensuring that shared services accelerate-rather than bottleneck-company-wide innovation.

What you'll bring
  • 10+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a proven track record in Platform Engineering or Shared Services.
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or related field
  • Technical Deep Dive:Strong domain expertise in Identity (IAM) and/or FinTech/Payments. Experience with Keycloak and Adyen is a significant plus.
  • Protocol Proficiency:Deep understanding of OAuth2, OIDC, and SAML2; you should be able to speak fluently about token exchange, scopes, and federation.
  • Modern Tech Stack:Expert-level understanding of Java or .NET and SOA/Microservices architecture.
  • AI-Savvy:Practical experience implementing AI tools within the SDLC to drive engineering efficiency.
  • Agile at Scale: 5+ years of experience with Agile/Scrum; experience navigating SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) or managing multiple release trains is highly preferred.
  • The "Illities": A relentless focus on Scalability, Reliability, and Security. You understand that for mmAuth and mmPay, a millisecond of latency or a percentage drop in uptime has a massive downstream impact.
  • Tooling Mastery: Strong command of ALM tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing suites (unit, integration, load, and vulnerability scanning).
  • Leadership Style:High emotional intelligence with the ability to motivate engineers, influence stakeholders, and proactively take ownership of the most difficult platform challenges.
