Position Overview

The Convenience Store Clerk is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the convenience store by providing excellent customer service, operating the point-of-sale system, assisting customers with fuel and merchandise purchases, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked store environment.

The Convenience Store Clerk reports to the Store Manager, Convenience Store Manager or designated supervisor and works as part of the convenience store team to ensure customers receive efficient service and a positive shopping experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service & Sales
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and helpful service to customers.
  • Assist customers with purchases, product questions, and fuel transactions.
  • Promote customer satisfaction through professional interactions and prompt service.
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise and provide product information when needed.

Point-of-Sale Operations

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to process customer purchases.
  • Accurately handle cash, credit card, and electronic payments.
  • Verify identification for age-restricted products such as alcohol or tobacco in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate cash drawer balances and follow cash handling procedures.
  • Stocking & Merchandising
  • Stock shelves, coolers, and merchandise displays to maintain product availability.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly faced, rotated, and priced according to store standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify store leadership of product shortages.

Store Maintenance & Cleanliness

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment for customers and employees.
  • Assist with cleaning duties including counters, floors, restrooms, beverage areas, and food preparation areas as applicable.
  • Ensure outdoor areas such as fuel pumps and parking areas remain clean and safe.

Fuel Station Support

  • Monitor fuel pump areas to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist customers with fuel purchases when needed.
  • Report equipment issues or safety concerns to store leadership promptly.

Compliance & Company Standards

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Comply with applicable safety and security regulations set by the company and local, state, and federal government.
  • Follow company policies regarding the sale of age-restricted products including alcohol and tobacco.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company operational information and business matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by store leadership.

Qualifications

  • Retail or customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.

  • Ability to operate a cash register and point-of-sale system.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
