RIA Tax Director

Location: Northeast Ohio

Base Compensation: $170,000โ€“$200,000 base compensation, with flexibility for more senior candidates

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced CPA and tax leader to take a key leadership role within a growing tax and financial advisory organization.

The Director of Tax Services will oversee client-focused tax planning, compliance, and advisory services while helping lead and develop the tax team. This role is well suited for a senior tax professional who wants to remain close to clients and technical work while taking on broader responsibility for people, service quality, and the continued development of the tax practice.


What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Lead tax planning, compliance, and advisory engagements across a diverse client portfolio.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for:
  • Individuals
  • Partnerships
  • S corporations
  • Trusts
  • Gift tax matters
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for clients on tax-related matters.
  • Develop proactive tax planning strategies designed to help clients manage tax liabilities and support their broader financial objectives.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop tax managers and staff while providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
  • Maintain high standards for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and client service.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate relevant implications to clients and internal team members.
  • Collaborate with financial planning and investment management professionals to deliver coordinated client solutions.
  • Support the continued growth and development of the tax practice, including appropriate business development initiatives.


What You Need

  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a CPA firm, financial services firm, or comparable tax environment.
  • Approximately 5+ years of leadership or managerial experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of individual, partnership, S corporation, trust, gift, federal, state, and local taxation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing tax engagements and client relationships.
  • Experience leading, supervising, or developing tax professionals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong professional judgment, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a client-service environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience serving privately held businesses and their owners.
  • Experience with tax planning and consulting in addition to tax compliance.
  • Experience working with financial planning, wealth management, or investment management professionals.
  • Experience contributing to the growth or development of a tax practice.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS and Practice CS.
