As the industry's only PBXTM, SlateRx is creating real value for plan sponsors on day one through purchasing scale and continued management via innovation and transparency. Our model is designed to improve an out-of-touch healthcare model to make pharmacy benefits simple and affordable for plan sponsors and members.
Job Overview:
As AVP of Business Development at SlateRx, you'll be a key driver of business growth by connecting customers with innovative pharmacy benefit solutions, shaping competitive sales strategies, and influencing how employers and plans manage pharmacy spend and improve member outcomes.
Position Summary
The AVP of Business Development will drive the strategic direction and execution of all PBM sales initiatives, driving growth, market share, and revenue for the organization. This role requires deep knowledge of the PBM and healthcare benefits landscape, the SlateRx business model including the underlying coalition contract, strong executive presence, and a track record of exceeding sales targets. The AVP of Business Development reports directly to the Chief Growth Officer and partners closely with cross-functional leaders to align sales strategy with product and operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Sales Execution
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive PBM sales strategy that supports corporate growth goals and expands market presence.
  • Oversee and manage the full sales cycle-from lead generation and RFP response to contract negotiation and close.
  • Forecast annual and quarterly revenue, establish sales targets, and monitor progress against goals.

Business Development & Client Engagement
  • Within a designated region, identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities with self-funded employers, brokers, consultants, TPAs, and other strategic partners.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships (C-suite and senior decision-makers) to influence long-term partnerships.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and external events to enhance brand visibility and generate leads.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Marketing, Product, and Customer Success teams to refine sales messaging, enhance service offerings, and deliver customer value.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Positioning
  • Monitor PBM industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive activity to inform sales tactics and product positioning.
  • Leverage market insights to refine go-to-market approaches and differentiate SlateRx in a crowded PBM landscape.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: 10+ years in PBM, healthcare benefits, or related sales leadership roles-with demonstrated success selling complex solutions and exceeding revenue targets.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of PBM operations, formulary strategy, rebate contracting, pharmacy network management, and employer/health plan decision-making.
  • Skills: Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to influence high-level stakeholders.

Preferred Attributes:
  • Proven track record building and scaling sales in national or regional markets.
  • Existing network with brokers, consultants, and large employer groups.
  • Experience responding to and winning RFPs with self-insured employers, TPAs, and health plans.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Job Benefits:
Health, Dental, Vision, Life, 401k, Paid Time Off.
Location:
