The Opportunity

The Project Director, is a leadership position focusing on driving business growth the in the Mid Atlantic South area by:

  • Adding clients, managing and developing existing clients and providing leadership in the Charleston office and coastal South Carolina/Georgia markets. 
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, Project Directors and regional management by developing new and existing clients, recruiting new professionals, retaining and rewarding top professionals, mentoring and coaching existing professionals, and capturing an industry-leading market share of varius water or non-water work for public agencies and utilities. 
  • Provide for the successful staffing of the projects

The Team

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and/or maintain relationships with our existing and prospective clients. 
  • Develop new business
  • Provide oversight of projects and Engineering Managers encompassing the full breadth of solutions B&V can offer
  • Work directly with managers in developing business growth strategies which encompasses market growth, new clients, hiring and strategic sales. 
  • Drive growth in any assigned strategies and support other Project Directors in accomplishing the overall market goals. 
  • Support other areas of the business and/or markets where individual experience, expertise, and aspirations align. 
  • Lead team efforts for marketing, strategy development, prospect identification, proposal development, proposal preparation, client presentations, project budgeting and contracting for successful opportunities. 
  • Represent Black & Veatch and support brand recognition in the water industry through active association participation and provide technical transfer through client workshops, presentations, and other activities supporting our clients. 
  • Accountable for new business objectives
  • External focus to interact with assigned clients and promote Black & Veatch throughg client and community activities
Preferred Qualifications
  • 20+ years business development and project management experience; wastewater and water technical engineering experience.
  • PE required; Bachelor's degree in technical discipline
  • Proven technical understanding of wastewater and water markets, including drivers and general trends. 
  • Strong sales traits, including tenacity and competitiveness
  • Overall people skills, task oriented to focus on winning new business, and achieving sales targets. Adepting working in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written and communication skills, inter-personal skills and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to interface with diverse personalities. Ability to think strategically and create persuasive message.
  • Contract negotiating skills which includes knowledge of terms, risks, pricing and payment terms. Expert ability to sell, as well as strong negotiating and persuasive skills.
  • Understanding of budgets and financial metrics. Self-starter and ability to make decisions independently.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible to multiple demands of project teams and shifting priorities. Problem solving and leadership skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments
