Job Description

As a Director, Project Management at Gilead you will lead high-priority U.S. Commercial strategic initiatives and serve as a strategic advisor to leaders across Business Units and functions.

The incumbent will report to the Senior Director, Business Strategy & Operations and will be based in Foster City, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead strategic initiatives that support and consult on the development and execution of strategic initiatives aligned to U.S. Commercial goals andobjectives.

  • Partner withleadership to shape strategy, clarify choices, challenge thinking, and drive decisions on complex cross-functional initiatives

  • Develop new concepts, techniques, standards, and approaches that may serve as models or precedents for future work.

  • Lead complex planning, operations, and special projects with significant organizational impact and limited direct supervision.

  • Create executive-level work products, including strategic frameworks, governance models, recommendations, narratives, and decision materials.

  • Anticipate interdependencies, risks, and organizational implications, and proactively mobilize stakeholders to resolve issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years Experience

OR

  • Masters' Degree and 10 years years experience

OR

  • PhD and 8 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree, MBA, PhD, or MD with 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • 2+ years at a top-tier consulting firm preferred.

  • Deep biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience is strongly preferred.

  • Must have deep understanding of the U.S. Commercial business, portfolio, and enterprise operating environment.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience developing strategies across commercial, functional, or enterprise contexts.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve unique, highly complex problems requiring a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and business judgment.

  • Able to operate under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives, with assignments largely self-initiated.

  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive consensus across stakeholders with competing priorities.

  • Strong judgment on decisions or recommendations that may affect financial, employee, public relations, or organizational outcomes.

  • Exceptional ability to synthesize complex situations, illustrate strategic choices, and facilitate discussions that lead to resolution.

  • Deep experience designing and deploying rigorous processes, tools, templates, governance, and operating models at scale.

  • High EQ, executive presence, sound judgment, and confidence to provide dissenting views when appropriate.

  • Familiarity with Change Management frameworks and principles, specifically ADKAR.

  • Must be highly proficient in PowerPoint and able to craft compelling executive-ready stories with minimal guidance.

  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and Microsoft 360 CoPilot


The salary range for this position is: $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
