Job Description Summary
The Director, Physician Practice Administration (Alliances) is responsible for the operational leadership, coordination, and implementation of physician practice administrative functions across the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab system of care, with specific focus on the strategic alliances. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP), Physician Practice Administration, the Director ensures physician practice operations align with organizational priorities, financial stewardship, regulatory requirements, and standards for patient safety, quality, and operational excellence. The Director serves as a key liaison among physician leadership, operational leaders, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.

Job Description
Physician Practice Management
  • Support development, oversight, and performance management of the annual operating budget for the physician practice operations across the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab alliance sites, including participation in capital planning initiatives.
  • Ensure effective allocation of operational resources to support clinical excellence, patient access, provider productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide operational leadership and oversight to physician practice administrative staff, including administrative coordinators, charge entry personnel, and credentialing staff.
  • Optimize operational workflows, resource utilization, and practice efficiency to improve patient access, throughput, provider support, and financial performance. Develop and implement standardized operational processes and best practices across physician practice locations.
  • Under the guidance of the AVP, Physician Practice Administration, support administrative and operational coordination related to physician and APP academic, research, and compensation activities in collaboration with physician leadership and institutional stakeholders.
  • Under the guidance of the AVP, Physician Practice Administration, support implementation and operational administration of physician and APP compensation and incentive programs aligned with organizational and market practices.
  • In collaboration with physician and operational leaders, support implementation of clinical policies, operational standards, and evidence-based practices to promote consistent, high-quality care delivery across the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab system of care
  • Under the guidance of the AVP, Physician Practice Administration, support physician and APP recruitment, onboarding, retention, scheduling coordination, and provider lifecycle administration.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance
  • Promote physician and APP engagement in quality improvement, patient safety, patient experience, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Under the guidance of the AVP, Physician Practice Administration, support organizational readiness and preparation for accreditation and regulatory surveys, including Joint Commission and CARF activities related to physician practice operations and medical staff compliance.
  • Ensure physician practice operations comply with applicable regulatory, accreditation, compliance, and organizational standards.

Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with physician leaders, operational leaders, academic partners, and relevant professional organizations to support operational excellence and strategic physician practice initiatives.
  • Prepare and present operational reports, analyses, dashboards, and strategic updates related to physician practice performance and initiatives for leadership audiences.

Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Physician Practice Administration.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in physician practice administration within an academic medical center, hospital, or complex healthcare system.
  • Leadership-level communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and data interpretation capabilities; experience translating complex data into actionable strategies.
  • Proficiency in performance analytics tools and reporting platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience leading operational improvement initiatives, physician engagement efforts, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a matrixed healthcare environment.
  • Experience supporting ambulatory operations, provider scheduling workflows, and physician compensation administration preferred.

Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
