Job Title: Director of Engineering

Location: Embassy Suites by Hilton Baton Rouge

Reports To: General Manager

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a full-service Hilton hotel. This role is hands-on and requires balancing day-to-day engineering operations with long-term capital improvement projects, ensuring the property remains safe, compliant, and aligned with Hilton brand standards. The ideal candidate is experienced in managing aging infrastructure while coordinating ongoing renovations with minimal disruption to guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Operations & Maintenance

Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and energy management systems

Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to extend asset life

Respond to and resolve guest and operational maintenance issues promptly

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Hilton brand standards

Renovation & Capital Projects

Partner with ownership, project managers, and contractors on renovation planning and execution

Act as on-site liaison for renovation activities, ensuring work aligns with operational needs and safety standards

Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality of work

Identify infrastructure risks and recommend upgrades during renovation phases

Team Interaction

Develop the engineering team, including supervisors and technicians

Establish clear performance expectations and accountability

Foster a culture of safety, responsiveness, and continuous improvement

Financial & Asset Management

Prepare and manage engineering budgets, including capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenses

Identify cost-saving opportunities, especially in energy and utilities

Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections

Safety & Compliance

Ensure full compliance with OSHA, fire codes, and environmental regulations

Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts

Conduct routine safety inspections and training

Qualifications:

510+ years of engineering experience in hospitality or a similar environment

Prior experience in an engineering leadership role preferably at a full-service hotel

Strong knowledge of building systems, especially in aging facilities

Experience supporting renovation or major capital projects highly preferred

Ability to guide teams while remaining hands-on

Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Certifications:

Universal EPA Certification

Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or similar credential

Trade licenses (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) a plus

Work Environment & Expectations:

Must be available for on-call emergencies and flexible scheduling

Ability to work in active construction and renovation environments

Frequent walking, climbing, lifting, and hands-on work required
