POSITION SUMMARY

Leads engineering activities to develop, design, test and implement packaging solutions for wire harnesses and electrical

components, to assure product quality preservation throughout the entire supply chain, and meet ergonomic standards to

promote a safe work environment. Direct interaction will be required with external and internal customers to support

commercial and product development activities. Coordinates packaging procurement activities to assure competitive supplier

selection, and develop competitive supply strategies to support lean manufacturing processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineers packaging solutions based on product technical and geometrical characteristics, to preserve product
  • integrity throughout the entire supply chain, optimize transportation mode and meet material handling guidelines in
  • the distribution operation, and point of use at vehicle assembly plant.
  • Develops packaging engineering specifications by providing required technical details, generate engineering
  • drawings, provide material specifications, operator instruction for product handling and preparation, design
  • protective measures to provide adequate protection to high risk components and product loading patterns.
  • Engineering analysis, test and design of various basic to complex packaging solutions based upon product and
  • company product development needs.
  • Coordinates testing and validation activities by designing testing protocols, evaluate and interpret data to support
  • packaging design effort.
  • Performs packaging VAVE activities to identify cost savings opportunities and improve packaging performance.
  • Analyzes product engineering specifications, customer specific requirements and manufacturing solutions to define
  • packaging strategy that will support optimum supply chain solution for new programs.
  • Conducts packaging project management activities to support new program launch readiness and corporate program
  • management events.
  • Provides program packaging requirements to support program packaging budgets, and coordinate packaging
  • procurement activities within program approved budget.
  • Develops specialized container packaging specifications, including geometrical configuration, material selection,
  • performance requirements, and internal partitioning to be used by suppliers in developing mass production
  • packaging solution. Responsible for sample evaluation, design approval and vendor selection.
  • Supports internal business unit bidding process, by providing packaging proposals for new programs:
  • Provides preliminary packaging estimations (SWOT) and costs.
  • Evaluates customer requirements, manufacturing strategy, and logistic strategy to define packaging concepts.
  • Participate in kick off, development, and program meetings.
  • Performs root cause analysis and implements corrective actions to address packaging quality concerns reported
  • during mass production throughout supply chain.
  • Supports EMS/QMS, Corporate and departmental policies.

REQUIREMENTS

 

Degree Requirements: BS Packaging degree or equivalent experience

Previous Experience:5-10 years previous experience in Packaging Engineering

Travel Requirements: Domestic and International as required, up to 40%

Language: English / Spanish (preferred)

Software: Microsoft Office Applications

On Call Requirements: As necessary
