Job description

Job Summary

The Senior Technology Engineer is a member of the Technology and Technical Support Department (T&TS) of Axens Americas Regional Operating Center (ROC). This team provides technical support to the Catalyst & Absorbents, Process Licensing and Equipment businesses for the Americas region. 

JOB DUTIES/Responsibilities
  • Develop and provide technical know-how for the technologies of specialization.
  • They will demonstrate a high level of autonomy in their day-to-day work and be capable to provide assistance and supervision to less experienced engineers.
  • Develop, present and ensure follow-up of technical projections for replacement of catalysts in existing units.
  • Develop, present and ensure follow-up of technical proposals and studies in support of evaluation by clients of Axens technologies and integrated solutions, for grass root and revamp projects.
  • Support Commercial team for the development of commercial proposals for Axens Americas ROC Catalyst & Absorbent and Process Licensing businesses.
  • Participate in the development of the expert basis during the execution of awarded licensing projects and in the definition of catalyst and process performance guarantees, as well as guiding engineering team and participating in client meetings throughout project execution.
  • Collaborate with other Axens team members, both outside and within Axens Americas ROC, to ensure technology tools and processes in Americas ROC represent the latest and most updated versions available.
  • Identify and propose improvement concepts to drive technology positioning and competitiveness for successful award of future licenses; this may include collaborating with the global technology development and improvement teams, as well as R&D teams.
  • Provide after sales technical service to Axens clients with the following objectives:
  • Ensuring optimized start-up of Axens catalysts loads for achieving performances in line with projections
  • Ensuring safe and successful commissioning of new units, including development and review of startup/shutdown procedures, and supervision in the field
  • Monitoring clients units and catalysts performances using Axens Connect’InTM remote monitoring solution, support clients in optimizing their operations, troubleshooting, through remote work as well as regular visits and meetings at clients’ sites
  • Building long term relationships with clients while showcasing Axens’ expertise.
  • Participate in training sessions to Axens’ clients as well as Axens Americas ROC team members from all business divisions.
  • Participate in the promotion of products, technologies and services with external parties in various meeting formats, from large industry conferences to smaller one-on-one settings.
  • Assist with the training of less experienced Technology Engineers.
  • Comply with Axens quality system requirements including contribution to the development and updates of Axens internal standards and processes as well as actively participating in internal team metrics including Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and other ISO requirements.

Education

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or relevant discipline required.

Work Experience

  • Seven or more (7+) years of experience in the petrochemical and/or refining industry, and at least 3 years in a Technology Engineer role.
  • Strong knowledge in chemical engineering fundamentals including reaction engineering, catalyst and general chemistry required.
  • Experience with PRO/II simulation software (or similar) and Excel-based modelling tools required.
  • Experience in basic process design, project engineering and/or economics preferred.
