As a Risk Manager at Capital One, you'll be responsible for working with business partners and various stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential risks. The Risk Management (RM) Business Risk Office is seeking a highly motivated Risk Manager to apply their analytical, risk, communication, and project management skills to support Operational Risk Management (ORM). In this role, you will partner with executives and their teams to identify and monitor risks in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are welcomed and rewarded. You will lead ORM through audit and regulatory engagements; facilitate periodic and change-driven risk assessments; and support issues and findings remediation. You will also be responsible for managing several horizontal Risk Office processes in alignment with the enterprise framework and related requirements. Risk Managers at Capital One are well-trained and progressive individuals that operate within a highly collaborative team environment to deliver value-added risk services across the organization.

Key responsibilities:

  • Advise and consult with ORM to help develop and implement well-designed risk frameworks, processes, controls, and supporting technologies to effectively mitigate risk

  • Manage internal audits and regulatory exams directed to and/or impacting ORM

  • Facilitate and lead risk assessments and related activities (Critical Business Process Identification, Process Level Assessments, Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Changed-Based Risk Assessments, etc), which include providing advice and challenge while driving influential outcomes

  • Manage and support horizontal change processes for the Risk Management Division in adherence with enterprise Policies, Standards, and Procedures

  • Stay current on the changing regulatory environment impacting Operational Risk Management and leverage data and technology to proactively identify risks, trends and/or process improvements

  • Monitor issue remediation, tracking, and closure

  • Escalate and report critical issues and risks to the Risk Management Business Risk Office and ORM Leadership team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 4 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance or Audit

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 3 years of experience interacting with internal audit, federal regulators, or government agencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or MBA

  • 5+ years of experience in Risk Management (Compliance, Audit, Risk Management)

  • 3+ years of process or Project Management or related experience leading cross functional projects and programs

  • Risk Management Certifications [Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM)]

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
