Director of Technology Spokane R-7 School District
Primary Purpose Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, you will act as the chief architect, engineer, and primary problem-solver for the district's entire technology and physical security infrastructure. As the leader of a two-person department (comprising yourself and one technician), you are responsible for protecting the district's digital identity and maintaining maximum network uptime to keep the district's technology running smoothly.
Essential Functions
  • Network & Infrastructure Engineering: Manages, configures, and troubleshoots the district's enterprise network stack, including FortiGate firewalls, Ruckus ICX8200 switch stacks, and SmartZone 144 controllers.
  • Server & Virtualization Architecture: Manages the district's on-premises server infrastructure using Windows Server 2025 Datacenter, heavily leveraging Hyper-V to deploy and maintain critical Virtual Machines (VMs) including internal Certificate Authorities (CA) and dual Network Policy Servers (NPS) for high availability.
  • Identity & Security Architecture: Serves as the master administrator for the hybrid Microsoft Entra ID environment, managing Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations.
  • Endpoint & Access Management: Leverages Microsoft Intune to deploy device profiles and manage certificate-based Wi-Fi authentication (RADIUS/802.1X EAP-TLS).
  • Physical Security Systems: Oversees access control and surveillance infrastructure, programming complex door unlock schedules, holiday overrides, and "First Person In" (Snow Day) logic.
  • Student Safety Platforms: Manages the Securly platform to enforce robust internet filtering, student wellness alerts, digital hall passes, and iPad MDM. Manages staff rosters within Raptor Emergency Management.
  • Systems Integration: Untangles complex backend directory conflicts between Entra ID and Google Workspace to ensure seamless identity provisioning.

Work Schedules Twelve months per year. Requires constant movement between buildings and classrooms, including the High School, Middle School, and Highlandville Elementary, to troubleshoot infrastructure and oversee building upgrades.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server 2025 Datacenter and Hyper-V virtualization.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune.
  • Deep technical understanding of Fortinet routing and Ruckus FastIron CLI.
  • Extensive experience with Google Workspace administration and directory syncing.
  • Knowledge of physical security platforms including access control, video surveillance systems, and Raptor.
  • Knowledge of student safety and classroom management platforms like Securly.
  • Teamwork and consensus-building skills, specifically the ability to partner effectively with a single technician to cover the entire district's footprint.

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Master's Degree in related field preferred.

Experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in use of technology to support instruction.
  • Formal training (courses, workshops, conferences) in use and implementation of technology in a school setting.
  • Successful experience training others and serving as a resource in use of technology.
  • Experience using a network to store, retrieve, and disseminate files and documents to end-users.
  • Software troubleshooting experience.
  • Successful supervisory experience.
