Job Description

Primary Purpose


The Director of Technical Services is a leadership role responsible for supporting the Chief Technology Officer in the strategic design, development, implementation, and maintenance of complex technology initiatives. This position oversees the planning, organization, and management of technical staff, ensuring the efficient execution of IT operations and the successful delivery of technology solutions across the district.


Minimum Qualifications


Education/Certification:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CETL, Google Certified Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or equivalent) are a plus.

  • Candidates must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.


Experience/Knowledge/Skills



  • Advanced knowledge of mobile device management systems (JAMF, Apple School Manager)

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Admin Console

  • Experience with inventory management systems

  • Experience with help desk and support ticketing systems

  • Strong understanding of instructional technology integration

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee the district’s 1:1 technology initiative, ensuring efficient device deployment and management.

  • Evaluate and recommend innovative technology solutions to support educational objectives.


Device and Infrastructure Oversight



  • Manage comprehensive inventory of district technology assets (Chromebooks, iPads, Macs, and device carts).

  • Develop and implement efficient device check-in/check-out procedures.

  • Supervise technical support services, including hardware and software recommendations and updates.

  • Research and implement cost-effective technology solutions.


Vendor and Resource Management



  • Establish and maintain relationships with technology vendors and distributors.

  • Manage technology purchasing and budgeting processes.

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of technology hardware and software.

  • Negotiate and secure optimal pricing and support agreements.


Team Leadership and Development



  • Provide leadership and oversight to district and campus technicians.

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative technology support environment.

  • Develop and implement professional development opportunities for technology staff.

  • Delegate and coordinate technology-related tasks efficiently and effectively.


Operational Excellence



  • Ensure compliance with district technology policies and procedures.

  • Manage technology aspects of student enrollment and withdrawal.

  • Manage the technology-related onboarding and offboarding processes for employees.

  • Implement and maintain robust security protocols for district technology systems.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and educational technology trends.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
