Overview of the Organization

The Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust(“PRSTRT” or “Trust”) is a private non-profit organization created in 2004 to encourage and promote innovation, transfer, and commercialization of technology and creation of jobs in the technology sector. We contribute to Puerto Rico’s public policy for science, technology, research, and development. The Trust’s mission is to invest, facilitate and build capacity to continually advance Puerto Rico's economy and its citizens’ well-being through innovation-driven enterprises, science, technology, research, and public health. Our vision is that Puerto Rico is a globally recognized innovation hub.

Purpose

The Director of Resources Development is responsible for leading efforts to identify, develop, and manage funding opportunities that strengthen the organization’s sustainability and growth. This role focuses on actively securing funds through philanthropy programs, tax credit incentives, strategic partnerships, and collaborations with public and private entities. In addition, the position will drive initiatives that promote institutional visibility and access to new sources of resources.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Formulate, align, and refine strategic and operational plans in coordination with the External Affairs team of the Board of Trustees of the Trust and its President.
  • Identify, research, and develop funding opportunities through foundations, government agencies, private companies, and corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Design and implement strategies to maximize access to tax credit programs applicable to the organization.
  • Establish, strengthen, and maintain strategic alliances with local, national and international organizations that support institutional development.
  • Coordinate and prepare grant proposals, letters of intent, and other required documentation for funding requests.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors to ensure long-term engagement and stewardship.
  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns (e.g., events, digital initiatives, annual giving) to diversify revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with Communications/Marketing to create compelling donor materials, case statements, and impact storytelling.
  • Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements by preparing and submitting timely, accurate reports to funders.
  • Monitor trends in philanthropy, government programs, and innovative funding mechanisms.
  • Support institutional strategic planning to align development efforts with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Serve as liaison between potential external stakeholders and Programs directors to maximize fundraising initiatives.
  • Produce periodic reports on progress, secured funds, established partnerships, and impact metrics.
  • Representing the organization at forums, conferences, and events to promote visibility and networking opportunities.

Qualifications & Technical Job Requirements

  • Practical knowledge of grant writing processes, funding applications, and project budget management.
  • Experience in design, management, and reporting of funded programs.
  • Familiarity with tax credit incentives and public/private financing mechanisms.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, build strategic partnerships, and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in productivity tools (MS Office, CRM, fundraising platforms).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.

Experience & Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Sciences, or related fields is required.
  • Master’s degree in organizational development, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related areas preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, business development, institutional relations, or related fields.
  • Certifications in Fundraising Management, Grant Writing, or related fields will be considered a strong asset.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
