This is a full time, in-person role at our office in Marina del Rey, CA.

About the Company:

Mango is building a new type of microscope. Our innovative approach enables us to grow microbes and observe their growth in real time. Mango is through the PoC phase with several top 10 biopharma companies and currently launching a GMP product. You would be joining at a critical juncture in the business.

Located in Los Angeles, our team combines expertise in business, mechanical engineering, bioengineering, and software development. We\'ve honed our skills at various startups, including Snapchat, and now we\'re focused on turning this groundbreaking idea into a practical tool for pharmaceutical manufacturing. We\'re eager to find someone who shares our enthusiasm for making a meaningful impact.

The software at Mango truly spans the full stack from the firmware running on the instrument, a custom imaging stack, image process and machine learning on a petabyte-scale internal set of novel biological data, and a well-designed performant UI/UX for our customers.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Director of Software to lead Mango into the next stage of growth for both the company and the software team. We expect strong hands-on technical skills in addition to technical leadership experience. The Director of Software acts as principal architect, business liaison for software, project manager and trusted ear to leadership. They are responsible for all things software, both the delivery of the customer facing software and internal tools integral to training our state of the art ML models or organizing our massive data warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Communication: Work directly with the rest of senior leadership to define business objectives, key milestones and product initiatives coalescing into a software roadmap. Maintain alignment cross-functionally and execute on the software roadmap. Continue to build a highly effective software team as the company enters a growth phase.
  • Design and Development: Act as principal architect for a complex full stack software product that involves generation, processing and display of terabytes of data per day at each deployment.
  • Collaboration: Work in close coordination with Mechanical, Electrical, and Biology teams to define the product and timelines. Perform cross-functional design review and make business critical decisions.
  • Quality and Compliance: Own the software compliance effort and handle customer relationships from the software perspective. Ensure a high standard of engineering across the software team. Meet regulatory requirements and anticipate customer compliance needs.

General Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience interfacing directly with C-suite in defining engineering goals for the business.
  • Strong understanding of high level tradeoffs with respect to product/business/engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to face unique challenges with persistence, creativity, and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, crucial for documentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Bonus Qualities (Not Required):

  • Experience bringing a biotech instrument to market
  • Experience with the regulatory and compliance landscape of pharmaceutical and biotech companies
