Job description

Position Overview:
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall management of the PTMW Engineering Department from conception to completion. The position requires management of resources, timelines, project accountability, and budget restraints. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate, cooperate and collaborate with the Project Management, Pre-fabrication, and Production Departments of the Company. Engineering solutions, quality workmanship, and on-time delivery are mandated results. Strict adherence with the PTMW Mission Statement and Core Values are the standards of conduct. The position requires an Employment Agreement with non-competition, non-disclosure, non-solicitation, and confidentiality provisions.
This position reports directly to the President of the Company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight for best engineering practices used in the design of PTMW products. Be the voice of reason for the engineering department for the designs used. Have a firm understanding of the functionality of each design.
  • Plan, execute, and design projects according to realistic but strict timelines and within budget.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of individual designers and engineers of the department.
  • Development of comprehensive project plans and specifications to provide manufacturing direction and control to internal and external customers.
  • Manage Project design budgets including, but not limited to, allocation of resources, tracking costs, and minimizing expenses.
  • Manage project scope, project schedules, project costs using appropriate data collection and analysis tools.
  • Foster a collaborative working environment with all departments.
  • Consider and recommend other software applications or tools to improve project results and backlog constraints.
  • Develop project weekly reports related to progress, status of work, proposals and presentations to inform internal and external customers related to the work in the schedules
  • Work on quality controls and accountability to reduce design errors or omissions.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers and designers by ensuring each team member understands their roles and responsibilities, delivering coaching and constructive feedback, providing access to training and learning resources and developing clear pathways for career progression within the organization.
  • Demonstrate and uphold the PTMW Mission Statement and Core values of Credibility, Accountability, Leadership and Fairness.
  • Other duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Education and Experience
  • College Degree from an accredited university in Engineering or strongly related field.
  • At least ten years of practical design experience.
  • At least five years of Engineering Management experience.
  • Experience in designing metal enclosures or metal parts is preferred, construction science also helpful.
  • Working knowledge and experience in using Solid Edge design or similar software.
  • Working knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Projects or similar project management software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
