Job description

Director of Retail Experience

Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Type: Full Time | Reports to: General Manager

Compensation: Competitive salary + performance-based bonuses

Welcome to St. Pete Athletic.

We’re not just operating a club—we’re building a community, a standard, and a vibe. Think urban country club. St. Pete Athletic is where sport, hospitality, and social energy collide. With 14 pickleball courts, 2 padel courts, dedicated table tennis spaces, a full-service restaurant and bar, and amenities ranging from coworking to wellness to a garden oasis—it’s a place to play, connect, and belong.

But our real secret? Hospitality. The kind you feel, not just see. We believe in creating moments that surprise and delight. And we’re looking for a Director of Retail Experience who lives and breathes that philosophy.

The Opportunity

As our Director of Retail Experience, you’ll lead the creation of a one‑of‑a‑kind, elevated retail program that feels like an extension of the club itself. From seasonal product curation and visual merchandising of top brands spanning athleisure to quiet luxury to sales operations and team leadership, you’ll oversee every detail of our retail environment—ensuring it’s as warm, curated, and memorable as any other part of the St. Pete Athletic experience.

You’ll launch and manage a retail program that reflects our brand identity while creating an inviting space for members and guests to explore products that enhance their sport, style, and lifestyle. This role blends creative merchandising, operational precision, and hospitality‑driven service.

What You’ll Do
  • Retail & Merchandising Operations
  • Manage all daily retail operations including opening/closing, restocking, inventory, and visual presentation.
  • Own the full merchandise buying process: select and manage seasonal catalog and inventory mix from approved vendors.
  • Own the visual merchandising strategy—curate, organize, and maintain product displays that reflect brand standards, seasonal campaigns, and product performance.
  • Oversee inventory lifecycle: conduct regular cycle counts, manage reorders, and coordinate with vendors to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Analyze sales performance and customer behavior to make data‑driven merchandising decisions.
Develop & Deliver the Retail Experience
  • Design and implement a warm, engaging, and hospitality‑forward experience for all retail guests.
  • Lead by example in product knowledge, proactive recommendations, and tailored service.
  • Establish and refine procedures for handling customer concerns, returns, and feedback to support retention and brand trust.
Team Leadership
  • Recruit, train, and lead a team of retail associates who embody our brand values.
  • Create a positive, high‑performance culture that prioritizes service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee scheduling and floor coverage to ensure optimal guest service and team productivity.
POS & Financial Accountability
  • Manage all POS system operations, including transactions, returns, markdowns, and reporting.
  • Reconcile daily sales and maintain compliance with internal financial procedures and controls.
  • Regularly track and report on KPIs—sales volume, conversion rate, inventory turnover, return rate—and integrate insights into merchandising strategy.
Who You Are

You’ve led retail operations in lifestyle, fitness, hospitality, or resort settings where service and experience are everything.

You’re equal parts strategic and hands‑on—ready to analyze data one moment and reset a retail display the next.

You bring strong visual instincts, attention to detail, and a sense of style that matches our elevated aesthetic.

You’re a confident leader, coach, and collaborator who builds high‑performing teams and leads with positivity.

You know how to create a retail space people love to spend time in—and return to.

You’re organized, goal‑oriented, and fluent in tools like Shopify, Square, or similar systems.

You care deeply about sport, wellness, and creating beautiful spaces where people feel good.

Our Promise to You

We want this to be the best job you’ve ever had. That means:

A voice at the table as we shape this club together.

Opportunities to grow professionally and personally.

A culture where excellence, joy, and kindness coexist.

Access to our full club membership and wellness offerings.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
  • Performance‑based bonus program.
  • Complimentary club membership & perks.
  • Professional development stipends.
